Wich oil filter is the best for chevy malabu 3.5 litter engine.?

name any type i need this for my car.please help quick?????????????.Wich oil filter is the best for chevy malabu 3.5 litter engine.?
Wix filters are the best out there. Napa filters are made by Wix so you can pick them up pretty easily.Wich oil filter is the best for chevy malabu 3.5 litter engine.?
fram oil filter and just go to the parts store and ask them for the right filter for your 3.5 engine.
The best brand to use is the Delco/AC by General Motors but any name brand with the correct interchange number will work. When changing the oil filter, be sure to remove the old gasket. DO NOT double gasket when installing the new oil filter.
well the worst oil filter is FRAM they are very cheep and the second worst is STP they are very poor in quality. the best oil filters to get are Mobile 1, AC Delco, and Puralator. these filters have the most surface-aria which means better flow rates and more space to trap dirt these filters also have the best anti drain back valves. Cheep filters Fram,STP have very cheep anti drain back valves that will allow the oil to drain back into your oil sump when the car is off so as a result when you go to start the car in the morning the engine will be staved of oil for a couple of seconds before the oil pump fills the filter up with oil again.
i would install a gm filter as that is what the manufacter recommends also that way there is no chance of having a warranty problems down the road

What size of FRAM air/oil filter does it use of 1999 peugeot 306 SW 2.0 HDI?

Other brands are fine too. What size of FRAM air/oil filter does it use of 1999 peugeot 306 SW 2.0 HDI?
I will pass a shop TODAY and stop and look it up for you.

Nobody has answered you in two days, sorry.

I'm back. The same oil filter fits many models of Peugeots. The catalog shows the same number for all petrol and diesel models between 106 and 406 currently. Just a few models take a different number, which is the same filter base, but shorter in height.

From my personal experience, my own cars, the same filter fits Peugeot 204, 205, 305, 405, and your 306.

FRAM PH3985 fits them all. Also Purolator 9, AC DELCO PF9, Castrol MaxPro CM3985, and STP S3985. Just look at the book at your local shop and see the number that fits. If the page is missing, look up Peugeot 205 or 206. It's the same as the 306.

These oil filters are the same for Jeep '87-'93. Dodge Monaco '91.

The air filter was Bosch 765, or Microstar LX 694 272, at my local shop, for all years of the 306, 1999 on. 14.99 euros.

I'm curious why you didn't go to a shop, look it up or ask, and buy one?

What sensors activate the ';service soon'; indication in a 1996 GEO, oil, filter air-filter plugs new, stil on.

what sensors activate the ';service soon'; indication in a 1996 GEO, oil, filter air-filter plugs were changed. need a geo book if you have. What sensors activate the ';service soon'; indication in a 1996 GEO, oil, filter air-filter plugs new, stil on.
you need to go to an advance auto parts store and get a Haynes repair manual for it they have all the info in there you will ever need for that vehicle, its made specially for the Geo so it will help you a lot ,good luck i hope this help,s.What sensors activate the ';service soon'; indication in a 1996 GEO, oil, filter air-filter plugs new, stil on.
first one that comes to mind is the O2 sensor, you did not say if the car is running badly the O2 sensor is usually the first to go a good place to go is your local auto parts store i like autozone as they can bring out a diagnostic tool to tell you what is wrong for free and they have the parts on hand to fix it, as for the geo book try asking your local GM dealer if they are still available if not try hemmings motor news found at good book stores just ask they will direct you to it even wal-mart sells them, if the light came on after you changed the air filter check to see if you got the filter housing sealed right if not it will let in to much air and throw off the sensors and give you a light. oops almost forgot at the auto parts store they may have a repair manual for your Geo, my bro. had a Geo and he ran the snot out of it he really liked it. Good luck
try holding in the trip meter reset button while turning the key to the ignition ';on'; position hold it there for about ten seconds and you will probably hear a beep or the indicator will go off it works with most cars

hope this helps dude
Its a 96..... so its obd2

Go get the codes scanned (either at autozone, or advance auto) to determine the exact problem before you go throwing parts at it...

After fixed.. take the battery cable off to reset the computer.
the service soon light comes on whenever there is a fault in a sensor or system that affects emissions. from vacuum leaks evap system cats fuel system. your best bet is to go get your car scanned to find out what code it is and follow up from there. even if you get lucky and replace the correct sensor the light will stay on till the code is erased or after a certain number of drive cycles after it no longer detects the fault.
I know on a lot of the vehicles you have to turn the ignition to where you only get battery power. Then press the gas pedal 3 times. turn the ignition off and start the car. I know it sounds ridiculous but I have to do that to my car every time that thing comes on. Then it will come up again when you need to change the oil. It will probably say in the owners manual if you have it available

I changed inline filter on the oil heating furnace. Need help with bleeding?

My fuel line is coming from the top of the tank to the furnace. When I changed the inline filter, I noticed the stop valve was also bad. So I went to home depot and got a new stop valve. Apparently fuel siphoned back to the tank during the process.

So far, I have added diesel in the inline filter and fired up the furnace with the bleed valve open in an attempt to make the fuel flow. I get all the fuel that I filled in the inline filter; after that bleed valve throws air for approx. 30 seconds and then furnace stops! Fuel just does not want to flow from my tank to the furance..... What do I do????I changed inline filter on the oil heating furnace. Need help with bleeding?
You may need to raise the level of the tank. There should be a small screw on the top of the filter where you can bleed between it and the tank. Then you can bleed it by loosening the line next to the pump (making sure you have rags under the line). This assumes that the tank is high enough for gravity to work. There should be a switch you can hold to try to force the furnace to run for longer. There should also be instructions on the side of the burner pump.I changed inline filter on the oil heating furnace. Need help with bleeding?
You need to get fuel in the line from the tank to the filter. At the filter, remove the line going to the furnace. Open the bleed valve at the furnace oil pump. Apply vacuum to the open end of the filter in order to draw fuel from the tank. Once the fuel reaches the filter, re-attach the line from the furnace. The fuel should flow to the furnace. You might need to turn the furnace on to pull the fuel. When the fuel gets to the oil pump, close the air bleed valve. I would call a furnace technician if you are not sure how to do this. Have a bucket to catch the spilled fuel, and plenty of rags.

You should also consider having the fuel line piped to the BOTTOM of the tank.

Infiniti QX4- where is oil filter?

It is a 2000 with four wheel drive. I've looked under the SUV for 30 minutes and I CANNOT find the oil filter and I've scoured the net trying to find help to no avail. I griped at my lady for wasting money having the oil changed at a service center, I don't want to eat my words now that I can't find the filter! haha! Please help me!Infiniti QX4- where is oil filter?
Never worked on one. But i do know that the oil filter will be located next to the oil pan. The oil pan should be near the transmission. I hope this helps because it would suck to have to tell her that you cant do it and eat your words. lol. :] Good luck man!

    Which oil filter to pick?

I went to Strauss to get an oil filter. I looked for last one I got but they dont have. they have that brand but not the code numbers. instead, they have 4 other brands with 4 different books. each gives u its own oil filer for my camry 94. which one is better?

    FRAM

    MOTORCRAFT

    POWERFLOW -$5

    MOBIL EXTENDED - $10

im using Mobil 1 10W-30 high mileageWhich oil filter to pick?
Out of the filters that you have mentioned the Mobil is the best filter. It is a clone of a K%26amp;N filter without the higher end case of the K%26amp;N. If you are trying to get the best filter for the money then I would also suggest one you left off your list a Bosch. The Bosch uses a cellulose media. The Bosch %26amp; the K%26amp;N both have a quality design that will prevent dry starts. Purolater also makes good filters. STAY AWAY FROM FRAM. They are cheap and poorly constructed filters that have caused engine damage for some when they fail. It is not worth the risk. Motorcraft also makes a good filter out of the ones you have listed. If you are going over 5k before a change then I would go with the Bosch, K%26amp;N or the Mobil.Which oil filter to pick?
Fram is cheap because it is mostly made out of cardboard. I used to work at Advance Auto Parts and My manager and I cut apart all the different oil filters that we carried and Fram was the cheapest made. I would go with a Motorcraft or Powerflow if you are going for low price.
IF YOU CHANG YOUR OIL ON A REGULER BASES

THE FRAM I THANK IS THE BEST FOR THE MONEY

IF NOT THE MOTORCRAFT FOR ENEY FORD.
I use fram with my mobil 1 oil.........
I have used fram for 47 yrs. with no problem whatsoever.
    K%26amp;N or FRAM.
Motorcraft....fram seems to break down too quick.

    Ford oil filter quality?

I used to be a Volvo owner where you only use Volvo (Mann) if you want a high quality filter. Is the same true for Ford?

I have a 2001 Taurus with Vulcan engine (new owner) and I took it to Chevron's Oilstop to get the oil changed. They use ';Warner'; (Champion Labs) filters, no idea of their quality. I know Fram is crap. My mechanic used his pipe cutter to cut open a few types of filters and the Fram was pathetic.

Should I stick with Ford factory filters or some other aftermarket brand?Ford oil filter quality?
Wix, Ford, Purolator and AC are the best, Fram is the cheapest and worst...Ford oil filter quality?
I don't believe you can go wrong with using the same parts and liquids that originally came with the car. Use Motorcraft for Ford, it's a good thing!

I also believe that places with fixed price oil changes will do anything to cut costs and improve profits. Cheap filters, cheap oil, cut corners, etc... are the norm. Just my opinion, buyer beware.

Anyone remember Franz? I actually saw one at a garage sale a few years ago.
I have had a ford taurus for several years and mantained it nicely on a fram filter. May I add my car has 180,000 miles on it and still starts every single day.

What you should be worried about more then anything else is that crappy vulcan engine same with the fuel flex engine it was crap. The only engine that was ever good in this car was the 3.0
Fram Is one of the top of the line old filter and air cleaner. I will use nothing less. Champion is the worse of the line. And will not install one on someone car.
I don't know it being the best but it's the only one recommended by Ford as they have found other filters actually come apart and clog the passageways that are critical sometimes.. more so on the new 3 valves than anything
Its said that factory originals are the best and cost the most. If you have the extra bucks to spend, go with the original.

Could someone please tell me where the oil filter is located on a mercedes sprinter 2002 311cdi?

You're dipstick probably has a plastic panel around it. Try lifting it off and looking under it.

Are Mighty brand oil filters as good as store brands?

Just wanting to know if it's worth paying more for Purolator or Fram or even Bosch or Mobil oil filters, or if it's safe to go with that brand since it's from the oil lube place. Are Mighty brand oil filters as good as store brands?
We used to use Mighty filters, never once had a problem with them, you'll be fine. Also for the last poster, Mighty oil filters do meet or exceed OEM.Are Mighty brand oil filters as good as store brands?
I would stick to a name brand that guarantees to meet OEM requirements.

Not a good idea at all.

The old filter is clogged with previous debris from cycling .

How well do you think it is going to filter new oil.......not good......not good at all.

In fact if the filter clogged all the way up.......It would be the same as running an engine without any oil at all.

The blockage of a clogged oil filter will starve the thousand inch oil clearances quick

Change the filter !Can i change my oil but not my filter?(I know it just as important.?
it will be fine, but if your going on a LONG roadtrip its a good idea to change the filter to. you can just twist it off with some adjustable pliers, its an old filter so it doesnt matter if you damage it, then put the new one on a 1/4 a turn past hand tight. good luck

ps. if you do oil changes regularly you will be ok not to change your filter just this once. but when you get the chance you have to do an oil change and filter.
too late dude. damage is done. 11:30pm your time now. fresh oil is fresh oil, that's what matters. now learn to do your own oil from here on out, and be confident that it's done right!

yeah, change oil and filter at same time and stuff. i have many ways for you to get that evil filter off.

i was taught that an oil filter should not be installed with a tool...it should be a little more than hand tight.

    have a safe trip!
You should change it.(Unless you work for Wal-Mart Tire and Lube) They tend to change the oil, drain the filter then reinstall the filter. Did it to my wifes care, my moms truck and my brothers truck. Then charged them for a new filter. Support the Chinese Army, Shop at Wal Mart!
You need an oil filter wrench. You can get them at any auto parts store for around $5.00. You need to get one that fits your filter so next time you go buy a filter ask them for a wrench to fit yours and buy it along with your oil.
if you leave it on then your keeping a quart of dirty oil in it. i use 1 of those filter wrenches that slips on the bottom and i use an extension and a ratchet.
You really just need to bit the bullet and change them both. It's not the end of the world if you don't, but this is taking saving money to a silly level.
It is important to change the filter with the oil change. Your filter could get plugged up and not work properly. It may not filter correctly and cause you engine problems. Change the oil Filter.
There alot to ask - how many mile do u have on your last oilchange

and did u dent the filter trying to get it off
you'll be fine for a few days, but definetly change it when you get a chance

    Oil filter slackened off?

I have a hole in my oil filter and someone told me it had been slackend off what does it mean as i dont know much about carsOil filter slackened off?
Sounds like he meant it has been loosened...replace it anyway%26gt;Oil filter slackened off?
well a lot of people punch a hole with a

hammer and screw driver in them to

undo them and replace them but there

is a tool with a chain on that slackens

them so who told you was right replace

    it.!!
get it off and fit a new one.its no good with a hole in it.when fitting the new oil filter ,smear some oil on the rubber sealing ring and screw up hand tight.wipe dry ,and check for leaks after filling with oil and running the engine for several minutes.
It means that someone has been beggaring about with it.

It is NOT an expensive job to rectify the situation.
If it has a hole, have it replaced.

Most oil filters screw on. It must be tightened down (screwed on) completely as it is installed for it to work properly.

The term slackened off simply means that the oil filter wasn't screwed on tight enough. Most anything that screws on and isn't properly tightened will loosen (slacken off).

I hope this helps, but I'm very serious about replacing that filter. Go get an oil change immediately.
Reckon he's been trying it on, did you leave him for a second to check under the bonnet? That's all it would have taken for him to take a screwdriver out his pocket. punch a hole through the oil filter, and possibly unscrew it slightly.

Other answers are right, DO NOT drive the car, at least until you've replaced the oil filter and topped up the oil.

Unfortunately, you've discovered that when selling a car privately, it's not just the sellers who get up to no good!
Looking at your previous question too, it's evident the bloke stabbed something through the oil filter and used it as a lever to loosen it off. You'll lose all your engine oil through either the hole or the loose-fitting filter.

The oil filter needs to be properly screwed on, hand-tight will do, and it's a favourite technique to stab a screwdriver through it to loosen it if it's too tight when you're replacing it.

Don't whatever you do try to run the engine, as you'll lose all the oil and wreck it. The filter needs to be replaced, and the oil either topped up or replaced too.

Basically, he's committed serious criminal damage to your car.
If you have a hole in it, it needs replacing. It will leak and you will lose oil. Not good. If it had been slackened off it was obviously not screwed on tightly. An oil and filter change is quite cheap ( around 拢20 ), get that done, and you'll be ok, but do it asap.
Get an oil change now to protect your engine. The term has no industry accepted meaning in my opinion.
Tell who ever told you that to quit treating you like @#^%%26amp;@! ';Slickended Off'; good invention, No such work or phase! There may have been an oil or fuel line in the filter that rubs aginest it while you're driving.

I see it now a buyer was trying to pull something over on you and when he took it on that test drive he, or a friend of his punched a hole in the filter to make you think it had an oil leak so you'd lower the price because there was a problem. This person that told you that didn't help any!
One way of getting an oil filter loosened is to jam a screwdriver through it and use screwdriver as a handle to turn the filter!

Sounds like this may've happened to you, i would expect loads of oil to come out rapidly, so the car may have no oil left in it!

Why its still on the vehicle is a mystery!

Have you only just noticed it or just bought the car?

Oil filters are not expensive, get it changed asap and use an oil with the correct 10w/40 rating as in the handbook if you have one. It makes quite a difference.

    Hope this helps

    Jim
Sounds as though someone didn't tighten it up when they fitted it and now it's come loose.

I bet there is oil everywhere.

The oil filter should be screwed on hand tight and after you have refilled the engine with fresh oil, run the car until it's warmed up.

Stop the engine and tweak the filter by hand just to nip it up.
Sorry to hear that you have met such a person-these scum prey on the unwary!Get new oil filter+fresh oil then all will be good-also get a friend to be with you when you sell it....will help your confidence and stop these scum trying to rip you off.GOOD LUCK with the sale!!

being a gm dealership tech i can't say about fords, buti know for sure it will contaminate the maf on a gm product.it semms like the closer the maf is to the filter the worse the contamination. gm has several bulletins on this subject, it causes all kinds of fuel trim problems as well as trans shift concerns. most of the time you can ';clean'; the maf by spraying it with carb. cleaner ( do not try to wipe the sensor, you will damage the sensor)
Oil and dirt, paper filter elements do a better job,K%26amp;N filters give you a measily one or two Horse power at the cost of ruining your engine.

Sounds like the carburetor is stopped up. Take if off, take it apart remembering where everything goes and clean the heck out of it with some carb cleaner. If possible get a rebuild kit, they are inexpensive. I just had the same problem after I cleaned it, it ran like a champ. First you have to know where it is leaking from. You should not even be asking about your oil filter. But the seal for the filter in already on it when you buy a new one.

Back to the antifreeze. It can be from you watwe pump, your head gasket, or many other place like you heater core. Each is its own problem. If you don't know where it is leaking form here is how to check. If your fluid is low look on the inside of your car. If the floor is wet on the pass side it is probably your heater core. If your fluid is low and there is no puddles anywhere start the car and watch to see if there is water comming out of your water pump if so by a new one and replace it. To check to see if your head gasket is leaking check your oil. If it is milky you have a big problem. If you don't understand anything I just told you take your car to a repair shop.

  • I am getting ready to change the oil on my 2006 honda rancher atv. Oil filter question.?

I bought a fram 6008 filter for it and was wondering which side was suppossed to point out, if that makes any sense. One side has the part number stamped on it and the other side is blank. I know it matters which way just checkn if anyone had a similar experience. ThanksI am getting ready to change the oil on my 2006 honda rancher atv. Oil filter question.?
I think you have the wrong oil filter. The Fram number should be 6015. It's the same filter my 400EX uses. The only Honda ATV's that use a different filter than this are the 450r, the Rubicon, and the Rincon.

I'm not sure on the Fram, but on the stock filter, EMGO, and Wix, the end with the rubber washer around the center hole faces out. The side without the washer (and should have a ';flapper'; covering the hole) goes toward the engine.

If you put it in backwards, you risk toasting the engine from lack of oil flow.I am getting ready to change the oil on my 2006 honda rancher atv. Oil filter question.?
Not familiar with this engine. Is it a canister(cartrige) filter? If so ,are the holes the same size?Is there a cork or flat rubber gasket glued to each end?If the holes are the same size,it doesn't matter which end goes in first.Be sure to clean all dirt and debris off before installing it.

Oil and filter for toyota matrix?

i have a 2006 toyota matrix, 4 cylinder, 1.8 liter engine, automatic transmission.

can someone please research for me the type of engine oil and oil filter that I would need when changing my engine oil. Also, if possible, please cite your source. thanks.Oil and filter for toyota matrix?
Whe n you go to the parts store the book will list your vehicle and will give you the part number for different brands. Any of these will fit your vehicle. The brand is a personal preference. Unless your car manual specifies different. For the oil use either 5W30 or 10W30. Check your manual or pop the hood and look on the underside of the hood. One of those should tell you. Mine takes and specifies either one. Also make sure that your car manual does not specify sythetic oil.Oil and filter for toyota matrix?
Um i know this is a comment but he oil is 5w20 or 5w30 I read i in my manaul Report Abuse

I have a new Toyota Yaris and the book calls for a high compression 5W30 oil and an oil filter with a check valve in it. This is important with the oil filter. A Toyota filter or a Bosch filter but not a Fram. These are cheaper filters without the check valve although they make them for all models of Toyota's. They should be stopped from doing this.
You might want to check with the dealer because i know the new rav 4 takes special oil from the dealer that is red in color so i think that would be your best bet.

Why are some oil filters really wide and some really tall?

Whats the difference do higher psi systems use wider or longer shapes, most cars seem to have more regular shape but trucks have very wide or long ones or is it engine or manufacture based. Why are some oil filters really wide and some really tall?
Don't be fooled by wide or tall oil filters. You would think that an oil filter that's wider and taller would offer more filtration area. If you really want to know what's up cut them at the base with an oil filter cutting tool and measure the height and stretch out the filtration media. In a pinch measure the inside below the pressure relief spring.

In cars if clearance permits do a bit of cross referencing to find the tallest filter that fits in the space provided.

Racing oil filters usually have a thicker can and threaded base.

What happens if you dont change you oil filter for more than 2 months????

Did you mean more than 2 years? You should change your oil AND filter every 3,000 miles (more often if you drive on dirt roads) or, if you don't drive it very often, at least twice a year (alternating hot and cold weather will accelerate oil break down through condensation). Of course, a dirty oil filter will not let oil circulate very well, the filter should be changed at the same time the oil is changed, else you will still have dirty oil. Dirty oil gets sludgy and then it can't circulate very well. If you wait too long between oil changes, this built up sludge will come loose all at once and plug up the oil pump suction screen (big trouble then). The longer you wait, the bigger the problems. What happens if you dont change you oil filter for more than 2 months????

I want to know if the air filter for a 2003 Harley Davidson 883 Hugger should have oil in it?

I looked at the air cleaner and it is soaked with oil. I know other motorcycles do that but I didn't know some Harley Models do?I want to know if the air filter for a 2003 Harley Davidson 883 Hugger should have oil in it?
Is it the stock air filter or the screaming eagle? There is no getting around blowby. If you over fill your oil tank you will get oil in the filter. If the bike sits around for awhile and you don not run it you will get blow by. I would start by cleaning it out then go for a nice long ride and dont be afraid to open her up on a back road. Its just one of those things. I do find it more common in bikes that are not run on a daily basis though.I want to know if the air filter for a 2003 Harley Davidson 883 Hugger should have oil in it?
No, the air filter should be dry. For some reason your drawing too much crankcase gases or your engine is making too much from possible blow by. There could be a component in the crankcase venitlation system thats faulty or plugged.
No. Your air filter should be dry. Your machine is wretching oil ... could be rings, could be an overfilled oil bag, could be blocked crank breather tube, could be a lot of things. But it is not normal, no.

Get it seen to before your little problem becomes a big problem.
Did you top up oil tank? common when bike has been sitting for a while (week or two) (particularly HD) oil drains into crancase , tank is low so gets topped off. when engine starts oil in cases returns to tank and exits into air filter through breather/vent

  • Change engine oil filter?

when changing the engine oil filter, should you just hand tighten it, or use a filter wrench or strap wrench. if it matters i have a 2004 chevy silverado V8 6.6L turbo charged.

    Thank youChange engine oil filter?
If you can't follow the owners manual for it, because you have a diesel, I would put tighten it down by hand, and strap it an eighth of a turn more.

If your truck is new I would check out a reusable filter from GoPure Power. I have had one for a year and it keep the oil clean. I am NOT employed or rewarded in any way by them. It's really a great (but not cheap) oil filter.Change engine oil filter?
If you can get a good grip on it, tighten it only by hand or it will never come off.
some oil filters are located in hard places to get at, so use whatever wrench you have that you can get at the filter. loosen old filter, drain, put back plug, install new filter, tighten, add right amount of oil (qts) check owners manuel, call auto parts store, they know.

    Oil Filter Change?

Do you need to change the filter every oil change?Oil Filter Change?
It would be like washing your dishes in dirty water... using a dirty rag. YES you should change the filter!

    - Good Luck!Oil Filter Change?
Short answer, yes. Your oil will breakdown over time and not work as well, thats the purpose of changing the oil. Your filter is made to keep contaminants out of your oil so really if you change the oil and not the filter you are just contaminating your brand new oil, not to mention the filter can only filter out so much and the dirtier it is the less it will be able to catch.
you dont have to, but its best if you do, because if you dont, all your doing is keeping a quart of dirty oil in the engine. for all they cost, its best if you change it everytime you change the oil.
    definitely

the oil filter will be full of crud

whats the point of fresh oil if you run it thru a shitty filter
    yes
yes you should change it everytime.
with the cost of a new filter on the cheap side change it with every oil change when the filter clogs it will bypass the unfiltered oil back into your motor and that is heading for a disaster
you should, cheap insurance for your engine. you can skip it once, but you really should change it each time you change the oil
This differs among people. If you change the oil every 3,000 miles, it's said you can change the filter every 6,000 miles.

The latest thinking is to change the oil every 5,000 miles. It really is a good thing to change for every oil change then.

Since you need to keep separate records of oil changes vs. filter changes, it's really much easier to just change it.
    mos definitely

I have bump shift down between 4 and 3 gear. 2003 Chrysler town and country. I';ve change oil filter, and prob?

Did you put the right fluid back in. It takes chrysler atf+4 and only that not dextron 4 or anything else. If that's whats in there, then there are several updates for the TCM(trans control module) Can only be done at the dealer and also tel them to Quick learn it.

    Removing an ungreased oil filter...HELP!!!!!!?

The last time I changed my oil filter I evidently forgot to grease it. It is not coming off easy. Is there a way to remove an ungreased filter? Or are there any products to help with this issue? My oil filter wrench is ineffective due to the location of the filter.

Please help!!!Removing an ungreased oil filter...HELP!!!!!!?
The best way to remove troublesome filters is to first drain old oil. Then set some rags or other absorbent material under the filter, then drive a phillips screwdriver through the filter( a hammer always helps) this gives you the leverage and a dry oil free handle to aid in the removal and can usually be done even in the tightest of spaces allowed by most imports!

NEVER try to stick something between it and a machined sealing surface. Thats a very bad idea Jacob!

When changing oil, always remember to apply some oil to the rubber o-ring and wipe around with your finger. It is also best to slowly fill the filter with oil before installing. Only turn filter 1/4 turn past initial hand tight, never using a wrench to tighten.

Most cars hold 5 quarts. Start with 4 quarts , start the car, let run for 15 seconds, check level then fill to full.Removing an ungreased oil filter...HELP!!!!!!?
The other answers are good but they left out one very important tool. It looks like a big pair of channel lock pliers with curved jaws and two teeth near the end of the jaws. They bend the filter but will loosen it. I had to buy one from NAPA for $26 in order to change oil on a 4.9 Cadillac. Lisle also makes one like this. Beware of cheaper imitations, they don't work well if at all.

    Hope this also helps.
    Merry f-cking Christmas to you.

You might have to buy a wrench that is suitable for your application. If not, jam a screw-driver completely through it and turn (you might have to do this more than once) until you can take it off by hand. Once removed, check to make sure the rubber gasket is not stuck to the base.
I've got several different oil filter wrenches...and the best one is a 'strap' type, not metal but web canvas I think. It really grabs better than a metal one. There is also a filter that looks more like a large metal 'dish' with ribs that match the end of the filter and it fits a socket wrench. If you can get it over the end of the filter and have room somewhere to work the wrench handle, it will come off. Sometimes if you can try to 'tighten' the filter sharply it will knock it loose.

But I have had the same problem-unless you want to sacrifice a few knuckles sometimes no wrench will work.

Get a tub like a dishpan or something-place it under the filter-and get the largest screwdriver you have-that is at least an inch longer than the thickness of the filter-and drive it through about half way up-right through both sides. Then you have a 'lever' right through the filter and you can pull down on it and spin that sucker off. As soon as you drive the screwdriver through you'll know why you need the tub underneath...and you are going to get dirty!

But it will be the last time you forget to grease that gasket!

    Good luck.
You are just going to have to force it off. A long chisel on the base seam of the filter might work. This might be a good time to have your oil changed somewhere and let the flunky deal with it. Most oil change places have the tools to deal with this problem.
call auto zone or adavance auto or someone with this kind of experince. check the yellow pages?
how about a medium or large set of channel locks?
Well, if the filter wrench can't reach the spot or can't be turned even a fraction of a turn to loosen it then your options are few.

The old slam a screw driver through it with a hammer and twist it off sounds unlikely so you'll have to use the old clean the filter off with a strong degreaser like Fantastic or Simple Green and make sure it is dry/wiped clean and not oily or greasy and then grab it with a rubber glove and slowly turn it lefty loosey until it comes off.

If you use just a couple drops of fresh oil on the new filter gasket or ';O';-ring you should not have this problem in the future. It does help to wipe off the metal surface around the (engine) block where the filter will clamp down so that there's no old oil hanging on to the metal before you screw the new filter on.

One of the by-products of the combustion cycle is sulphuric acid and this becomes suspended in the oil and this is why used oil will melt the rubber soles on your shoes if they are not ';Oil Resistant';. Most work boots have soles that are labeled ';Oil Resistant'; and this is why. The oil filter ';O-ring'; is affected by this sulfuric acid to some extent and also by very high temperatures.

    Good Luck!
Find an oil filter socket to fit your oil filter and attach your ratchet to it to remove the oil filter. If that doesn't work, use a large steel bar or a screwdriver and stab all the way through the filter, then twist it off pushing on the screwdriver handle. For future reference, oil filters should ONLY be hand tightened.
how about a strap wrench? what kind of vehicle?
If all else fails and you're feeling brave, put a long screwdriver through the hole body (going through both sides of the filter) and turn gently. ALWAYS oil the seal on the filter!!!!
In the past I have driven a philips screwdriver thru the filter to get better purchase in turning it. Be sure you are turning it in the right direction!
if the filter is hot wait until it cools and it will turn easier. If there is no room for a band wrench there won't be room to drive a screwdriver through it and turn it either. problem is It was overtightned on installation, I think if I were you I'd take it to wal-mart and for about $18. let them deal with it.
I just changed the oil in my new truck and the filter was stuck also. I couldn't use the plier type wrench because of the location. I had to use a nylon strap filter wrench with an extension and a 1/2 inch breaker bar. put the strap as close to the mounting surface or it may crush the filter.
The old-school traditional way to solve this is with a very large screwdriver.

You need to hammer it all the way thru the filter and then you'll have the leverage to twist it off.

Since you're going to install a new one you don't care about destroying the old one. Just don't hammer the screwdriver thru the new one.
If you can get at the gasket try a penetrating oil. There are different types of oil filter wrenches. Try a tool catalog or take it to a service shop. All the other techniques will damage the oil filter. If you damage the oil filter but still fail to get it off you will have to get the car towed to the shop.

If you want to take the risk, try driving a thin flat blade such as a putty knife between the filter and the motor. Once to damage the gasket it should loose its grip.

    Merry Christmas.

  • Whats wrong with using a fram oil filter on my 2002 ford explorer 4.6l?

Why not use a Motorcraft filter? They are inexpensive to get at Walmart(FL820S) and are a better filter. I personally would not use a Fram filter on any of my customers cars. I try to stick with the OEM filters when I can especially on cars under warranty. If I use something else, it will be a Wix, Bosch or Mobil. I see garbage filters come off of my customers cars when they go get cheap oil changes and I refuse to do that.

I have personally cut open many oil filters and compared them and I am not a fan of Fram filters.Whats wrong with using a fram oil filter on my 2002 ford explorer 4.6l?
Seen them blow at the crimps along the bottom of the filter and cause leaks from very small to almost damage a motor.

I use Motorcraft oil filters only on Ford's as some of the other filters, they are really good, but have a habit of creating noise when used as the silicone valve has a habit of keeping slight oil pressure in the system for less noiseful startupsWhats wrong with using a fram oil filter on my 2002 ford explorer 4.6l?
Technically, nothing is wrong with it. Personally, I wouldn't use a Fram filter on ANYTHING. I would suggest a Wix 51372 or NAPA Gold 1372. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
While there is nothing wrong with it for about the same amount of money why not buy a filter that isn't know as ';The orange canister of death';. But its your truck I would personally use Motorcraft for the money.
First off, motorcraft uses a special silicone valve to hold oil in filter till next start. Second, this filter has been UPDATED by ford twice to make it better for that type of engine, why trust anyone but who built the motor.
nothing that i know of,why did someone tell you no to?I use fram on everything i own even my golf car and have never had any problems.
they are the cheapest and come out at the bottom of all tests, there are several on the internet..

You have to run it through a chemical process using catalysts and heat. You can't simply bung it in your car, however much you filter it.

Veggie oil can be too viscous (i.e. thick) to use properly, especially in cold weather and could bung up your engine.

The oil pressure sending unit is right in this area. From past experience I know these like to develop leaks. Clean the area with solvent, dry it off, start the engine and watch to see if it leaks. Not very expensive, but tricky to get to.

Best results when engine oil is warm or hot. But hot could burn your hands. May need to jack up front end (engine end)

unless vehicle has a high ground clearance. Place

receptacle under drain nut located at the lowest point on the

engine. Remove drain nut (they're usually between 7/16';-

5/8';). Allow about 10 minutes for oil to drain. Clean drain

area, drain plug, reinstall drain plug just snug enough to keep

the plug in. Over tightening could be made worse when

engine heats and cools through normal use.

Move receptacle to a point under the oil filter. If you can't

remove the filter by hand, use a filter wrench or a filter socket

(filter locations vary quite a bit.) As you remove it remember

that there is oil still in the filter and may spill as you remove it.

    Clean filter install location. Use oil to ';wet'; the rubber ';O';

ring on the new filter and install it hand tight + 1/4 turn.

Pull out oil receptacle and lower vehicle from the jack.

Add oil (3.5-8 quarts depending on the vehicle. Amount

needed should be shown in owner's manual under

specifications.'; Probably 4 quarts.) Check oil level on dip

stick before you run it. This practice will catch a mistake such as a plug or a filter that wasn't seated or tightened.

Look for leaks, add oil if necessary.
the one thing i don't see is to run the engine first to heat up the oil and get some of the sediment flowing (the gunk that settles to the bottom of oil pan.) it doesn't matter if it's a car or a lawn mower you always heat up the oil first. say 5 minutes.

good luck to ya and pep boys is running a special this week on oil and a filter. if you have one near you look up that special. 5 qt. oil 1 oil filter $12.something

Undo the oil drain plug and let oil drain into a catch pan. loosen the filter and let it drain, remove the filter. Wipe the filter mounting surface with a clean rag and make sure the rubber O ring came off with the old filter. Wipe some clean oil onto the new filters O ring. Install the new filter, don't go over board tightening it. Once the filter O ring has made contact with the mount surface about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn more is good.. Install the drain plug, don't go mental tightening it either. Refill with required amount of oil. Start and let run for a minute or so. Shut off, wait a few minutes, and check the oil level. It will need a little more as the filter was filled during the run time.

Car stopped and we noticed a lot of oil. It was towed to dealer but they cannot look at until the morning2007 Ford Fusion-does it have an automatic motor shut off if is running out of oil-(filter not put on right)?
I read the manual, and I don't recall that feature. It has a feature to alternate firing of cylinders if overheating, to help reduce the engine heat, but nothing about automatic shut-off.

If your Fusion just stopped running after losing it's oil, it should have given you a warning light first. If that was ignored, it's likely engine damage was done and that's why it stopped running.2007 Ford Fusion-does it have an automatic motor shut off if is running out of oil-(filter not put on right)?

What is the cheapest / fastest way to filter large amounts of used vegetable oil to 5 microns @ low temps 0-2C

I would like to know the cheapest and fastest way of filtering large amounts of used vegetable oil down to 5 microns during low winter temperatures (0-2 degrees celcius) for use as a vehicle fuel. What is the cheapest / fastest way to filter large amounts of used vegetable oil to 5 microns @ low temps 0-2C
Probably, pump it through an automotive oil filter. They are designed to filter out particles a micron or greater and handle all sorts of viscosities of motor oil. My guess is that the viscosity of cooking oil will be much lower than that of motor oil, so an automotive oil filter should work fine. Walmart has its own brand that are made by Champion Labs (same oil filter as Bosch, STP, etc.) and is about $2 each. What is the cheapest / fastest way to filter large amounts of used vegetable oil to 5 microns @ low temps 0-2C
Well for five micron filter you going to have to buy one special lol. Automotive filter are at I think 20 microns.

You can buy these filters from any Industrial oil supply company. But you going to need lots of them lol.

    Oil filter location saturn 1996?

Been looking a long time, cannot find the location of the oil filter on a 1996 Saturn sl sedan, anyone?..ThanksOil filter location saturn 1996?
It's located on the passenger's side of the car, just anterior (front) of the axle. It can only be accessed from underneath the car (You'll have to jack it up). If you're underneath the car, you can look straight up from the oil pan, and you'll probably see the butt end of the filter sticking out a bit. I'll see if I can find some links for you with photos. I'm actually pretty sure I posted a similar answer to your question before. I'll update shortly.

Air filter life expectancy can vary from over 20k miles if you drive in areas with clean air to as little as 3k miles if you operate in dusty desert areas.

    It is simply a question of ';How dirty is it?';

I use the ? can I see light through it ? as the best guide if the vehicle does not have an air filter monitor installed. When changing the engine and transmission oil on a car. should you change the air filter as well?
you're supposed to change the oil every 3,000 miles or so. the air filter doesn't need replacement nearly that often. I usually replace mine every 3 oil changes.

It's not a spin-on. Mercedes uses cartridge oil filters. It will be located on the top of the motor, in a cylindrical housing. You undo the cover, and replace the internals of the filter and the o-ring seals. Have a big ziplock bag at hand for the old filter, it's a bit messy.

There's nothing wrong with the /95 cars, it's the later cars that are maintenance headaches.
The V12 engines are a little different.

The filter is hard to see, Its on the driver side of the car under the air intake pipe on that side. It doesn't stick straight up like the other MB cars do.
It would be in a plastic cup looking thing at the top of the engine. When you buy a new filter, it comes with a filter that you pop in the cartridge. Theres also a gasket that you replace.

oh and you will need a special tool/socket to get the filter off(unless you have strong hands). You can find it at ebay but dont buy it at the MB dealer. ITs expennsive

is it the best and worth the priceK%26amp;n oil filter how often to change them and are they as good as they claim or a regular filter will do the sam?
Use a regular filter. They get changed out every 3,000 mies anyways. You will not see the difference. The air filters are a different story, but they too are not as good as they say they are.K%26amp;n oil filter how often to change them and are they as good as they claim or a regular filter will do the sam?
The best thing about any filter that,s oil charged is you don't have to clean them very often at all. Depending on your driving you could go a whole year or more without even considering to clean it. Now I drive down about 10 miles of dirt roads twice a day and wouldn't even consider owning one. Mainly because the expense and time to clean it every 3k to 4k I just change the cheap little paper one every oil change. But they are good filters and yes, they are worth the price.

more info: Opps, I thought of the air filter. NO, I would not have the added expense of buying a K%26amp;N OIL Filter. But DO NOT buy an oil filter from WalMart. They get factory seconds. Buy a GOOD Wix filter and change it every 3k to 4k.
Regular filter will filter out the dirt better, K%26amp;N may flow slightly more air, useful only if you operate your engine at maximum RPM a lot.
All K %26amp; N filters are overpriced junk. Do not be taken in by the outrageous claims of their marketing department. Buy a quality oil filter from Wix, or Purolator ( at half the price of the K %26amp; N crap ) and replace at the recommended oil change interval and you'll be good to go. Avoid K %26amp; N air filters ( @ $50.00 ) as well, Wix air filters ( @ $9.50 ) do a better job and after a year you can throw them away, instead of spending $10.00 on the K %26amp; N ';recharge'; kit and then getting to wash your filter.
The engine oil becomes contaminated with acid from the combustion process. No filter can remove that. Any filter will remove dirt and should be changed along with the oil. Not changing it leaves the contamination in place. It would be about as smart as trying to save and reuse toilet paper rather than flushing it. K%26amp;N oil filters are no better than any others and should never be considered as a long life alternative. Their air filters will give you a bit more air flow but the down side is they also allow the passage of more fine dirt particles.

As above, these are really simple parts to identify. If you buy a new oil filter, it will be obvious where the old one is located.

The sump plug is screwed into the lowest part of the oil sump on the bottom of the engine. Depending on the model, you may have to remove some covers from the bottom of the car.

Engine oil filters have one purpose in life: to filter out the particles that enter the oil so that they don't act as abrasives when the oil recirculates. The filter is a cellulose (paper) or synthetic media that is usually contained in a steel can. The front of the can typically has a threaded center with surrounding holes. Oil enters through the surrounding holes, passes through the filter media, and exits through the threaded center. The filters usually screw right onto the engine block using an o-ring gasket to prevent leakage. Many filters have an anti-drainback valve to prevent dirty oil from backwashing back into the oil pan. They also have a pressure relief or bypass valve that will allow oil to bypass the filter element in the event that it becomes too plugged to pass enough oil. This prevents engine oil starvation and the possibility of destroying the element, possibly causing pieces of it and the junk it filtered to enter the engine. Also, when the oil is cold and very thick, it will tend to bypass the filter through the pressure relief valve because it cannot pass through the element until it thins out somewhat. If it did not do this, the filter element media would tear open.

A good filter has a strong steel can to withstand the high oil pressure (60-80psi when cold), an anti-drainback valve that actually works without creating too much backpressure, a pressure relief valve that doesn't leak, and a strong paper element and cap that can with stand the pressure and flow of oil without falling apart. The element media has to be able to trap small particles, but without restricting the flow too much. Cellulose (paper) media is used on economy filters and works OK. The fibers in the paper acts as a mesh to block particles down to a certain average size, while allowing the oil to pass through. Some manufacturers add other media, such as cotton, to the cellulose to improve its performance. There is synthetic fiber media for the high-end filters that has smaller passages to trap smaller particles, but can pass more fluid through it because it has more of them. There is also media that is a blend of these two. There are also ';depth'; filters that are usually made of synthetic material that has a passage size gradient to it. In other words, the deeper into the element the oil goes, the smaller the passages get. This way, large particles are trapped in a different spot than small particles, which allows the filter to hold more particles before it ';blocks'; (becomes too restrictive).

With all that said, go with the BEST oil and filters, and change once a year or 20,000 miles.

my aunt and uncle are the owners/founders of fram, so i say fram. im, of course, partial.
Fram used to be good, but their filters have become smaller and less effective then they used to be.

WIX has always made good filters.

    AC still makes good filters.

Bosch are too expensive and no better then American filters.

STP fiters are made by Fram they are no better and cost more. All STP products are over rated and over priced.

    .

I buy my AC filters ( and Kendall oil) at an Auto Parts Store by the case, it saves money and I always have what I need on hand.
Nothing better than WIX, my family and I have used them for years and never had a problem.

Peugeot 205 gl. i got it running but lots of white smoke and theres oil in the air filter?

My mates hubby put new glow plugs in but it still wouldnt start, so she gave it 2me. Now i charged the battery and got it going for a day then had 2recharge the battery..But since then theres been alot of white smoke when it starts so i took off the air filter(which wasnt connected properly) and its smothered in oil.. something just dosent look right either, what could be the problem...Peugeot 205 gl. i got it running but lots of white smoke and theres oil in the air filter?
Take it to the mechanicPeugeot 205 gl. i got it running but lots of white smoke and theres oil in the air filter?
White smoke in a DIESEL engine (which is what you have) is caused by insufficient heat being generated to ignite the fuel - air mix. This heat is usually provided by the 'glow plugs' which heat the mixture in the cylinders until ignition can occur. once the engine is running, they automatically switch off. It could be something as simple as a batch of faulty plugs. As for oil in the air filter, This could be something as simple as a blocked crankcase breather hose, I would replace the filter as a matter of course %26amp; monitor it over a few days - a bit of a pain, I know but it could indicate something more expensive occurring in the engine as other posters have suggested.
If your exhaust or catylitic converter is't plugged, your piston rings are worn out and the oil is pushing up into the combustion chamber, hence the white smoke out the exhaust, and the ';blowby into yhe air filter. The only other thing that can happen is that the ends of the piston rings are in line instead of staggered. This can happen over time but it is very rare. I have heard this happened with a bunch of Chevy truck engines. Idon't know if it was an assembly error from the factory or if the rings moved radially over a period of time by themselves. Odds say your rings are gone.
    Your head gasket has blown!

When this happens, the oil and coolant mix, the white smoke is the coolant burning with the fuel, and the oil in the air filter is caused by oil blowing the wrong way down the air inlet.

If u look in ur coolant (header) tank u will most likely see it has brown gunk floating about.

It can be quite a big job depending on whether or not u have let the engine overheat or not.

The battery thing could be a separate problem, the alternator may have failed, or fan belt snapped, which would mean the batt gets no charge from the engine. not as big a problem as the head gasket tho...:-( condolences!!!
it sounds as if your engine isn`t breathing properly. check before thinking engine as had it.

I changed oil&filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?

i changed it because my tranny was acting weird i also forced pan out i had a hard time with it and my last gear dont kick in at 65 mph im at 3000 rpmI changed oil%26amp;filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?
because you had to force the pan back into position ill bet that you knocked a sensor or solenoid loose on the valve body. the unfortunate solution is to pull the pan back down and check them all.I changed oil%26amp;filter to tranny on my o3 silverado 1500 after that my truck dont accelerate or get last gear?
Check the wiring. You may have knocked a wire connector loose. I could be a loose wire inside the oil pan. If you accidental disconnected a shift solenoid it will cause this. They are in the side of the Valve body.
how does the oil and filter have anything to do with the gears?

  • Were is oil filter on 2004 chevy caiverar?

It should be right by the oil pan, usually a little bit in front of it, and it can be on either side of the motor. But I think you ment to type cavelierWere is oil filter on 2004 chevy caiverar?
It is at the rear of the engine, you have to reach up through the opening at the right front tire and pull it out past the inner tie rod.

Can you use a fuel filter inplace of a oil filter on a onan gen.?

This is not a creative idea, but a destructive one.....

However, if you intend to get someone to get you a new gen. go ahead. Please take good care that no one is hurt in the process!

I salute you for your creativity!!!!Can you use a fuel filter inplace of a oil filter on a onan gen.?
No. Fuel filter is not designed for motor oil. Filter will shred %26amp; plug oil pump. Then the cost get big when you have to replace engine. Can you use a fuel filter inplace of a oil filter on a onan gen.?
Consider this: Can you make an apple pie with oranges only? No way.
He!@ No don't do that or you will be replacing a engine. Two differently designed components.

    Motorcycle oil filter?

Does anyone know the correct Fram oil filter to use on a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT motorcycle, California model. All the charts I look in at local parts houses do not include the newer model bikes. ThanksMotorcycle oil filter?
call a Kawasaki dealer....Motorcycle oil filter?
The Kawasaki filter number for this motor is 16097-0004

For about the same price, or a little less, you can get a Wix filter. This filter is far superior to the Kawasaki Filter. Wix claims to trap 94% more dirt. The Wix filter for this bike is 51358.

If you really have to have a Fram, the filter number is PH6017A.
Spend the extra $3 and buy an O.E.M. Kawasaki oil filter.

Some Kawasakis of that era had an oil filter boss recall and required a paper replaceable filter inside of their updated spin on cover.

Don't try to save a few $ buying inferior aftermarket products.

How do you know, if they know about any recalls, or updates.

98 Taurus; I changed trans filter and oil what?

The car had no leaks or shift problems;I just do that

on any automatic at 125,000 Mi; I have driven about 100 mi.Now seeing oil leak;not at gasket mating surface;Question the chg kit had gasket and filter, the new one had a collar on tube, the one I removed didn';t so I took collar off,What do I check?98 Taurus; I changed trans filter and oil what?
You installed the new filter INCORRECTLY. To properly install the new filter, you must first remove the old filter. On these cars, the ';collar'; you speak of, will always remain inside the valve body. To remove it, stick a the back end of 3/8'; drive extension (the side the ratchet goes to) into the hole, and gently pry the ';collar'; out, taking care not to damage to bore. To install the new filter, simply press it into place with the ';collar'; on it.

Regarding your fluid leak, did you replace the pan gasket? Where did you get your parts? If it was an aftermarket part (non-Ford), the gasket is probably a cork type (the type I wouldn't use on my own vehicle). You've probably overtightened the pan bolt(s). The original gasket was probably a steel composite type with rubber coating. If this was the type of gasket that was originally on the car, this is what SHOULD'VE been used, because it is REUSABLE. This type of gasket is NEVER to be replaced, UNLESS IT IS DAMAGED. The only other possible source for transmission fluid leak, would be the intermediate-overdrive servo cover gasket (if it's a 3.0L OHV V6 with AX4S transmission), but I doubt it, since you state this concern occured shortly after your service. When loosening or tightening the bolts, use a 5/16'; socket. DO NOT use an 8mm socket. The bolt heads strip easily on this particular transmission. Make sure you use ONLY the proper Ford Mercon V fluid or you WILL have issues in the near future! Hope this helps.98 Taurus; I changed trans filter and oil what?
You left the old collar inside the tube that the filter goes into. Trust me there is one in there. You'll have to take it apart and remove the filter. Look really close you'll see the old seal (what you call the collar) inside. You may have to pry it out.

I have and engine that has an oil filter with a hose coming out the holder...do i need the hose?

im takin the parts off old engine and puttin them on new one and the old engine has an oil filter with a hose and the new one doesnt. wat is that hose for and do i need it on the other one? cuz it doesnt fit on the new one. THANX in advanceI have and engine that has an oil filter with a hose coming out the holder...do i need the hose?
You'd need to supply more information or a photo of the hose. There are a couple of possibilities:

1.) the hose goes to an oil pressure gauge

2.) the hose seds oil to (r from) and oil cooler.

What does this engine go into? What did the other engine come out of?

AstrobufI have and engine that has an oil filter with a hose coming out the holder...do i need the hose?
the only filters that i have seen with a hose coming off of them is a fuel liter for a diesel. once again a year make engine size would help us help you.

Is there such a thing as a re-useable oil filter that you clean and replace, like an air filter?

Yes Scania and Rolls Royce use centrifugal spinners better than any cartridge filter just clean em out and away you go some of our Scanias have way over a million clicks on and no real crank wearIs there such a thing as a re-useable oil filter that you clean and replace, like an air filter?
Yes. Well there used to be. I can't remember the manufacturer, but in the late 70's a customer brought in a car for me to plumb up a remote oil filter. I plumbed it in and looked at the filter housing, it was clear plastic with a drain. The part that was unique was it used a standard roll of toilet paper as the filter. It was something I have never seen before or since. Good Luck.Is there such a thing as a re-useable oil filter that you clean and replace, like an air filter?
an oil filter is not that expensive, unless you are driving a VW or a diesel. I would just go buy a new one. They aren't more than $3-8 depending on the vehicle.
some air filters may be washed when it's specified.for oil filters to be true i never saw any washable ones.
None were ever made as they would take more time to clean and would create an ever bigger mess to clean and dispose of the cleaning solvent. Quicker easier and better for your engine to get a new filter.
The old VW Beetle had a sort of wire-mesh filter that you rinsed out %26amp; replaced (I remember it well, bl**dy thing!). Not now, though. There are add-on additional filters that are cleanable, but they're extra, not in place of.
The Oberg oil filter has a removable screen that you clean and replace. But it iis not intended to replace your spin on filter, and requires a bypass set-up with hoses, fittings and sandwich plate.
    NO
Never heard of one...That would be way more trouble than screwing on a new $4 filter.
on some cars there is (bmw land-rover mb
    not for oil
    no
    NO......
yes, some small industrial engines use them %26amp; some hydraulic systems on plant have them.
Not that I know of, on a car. If there was one, I certainly wouldn't recommend it, though my old motorbike didn't even have an oil filter.
    No.

  • Where is the oil drain plug and oil filter located on a mercedes benz ml 430?

The filter is on top of the engine, very easy to reach.

It's on the driver side right in front of the oil filler cap. It's the black cap with multiple flats on it. Unscrew that cover and the filter is underneath. Your new filter will come with a set of new rubber seals for the cover.

Drain plug is under the truck but you have to remove the black plastic cover first thats under the engine. Drain plug is mounted sideways in the oilpan. You need a 15mm wrench for it.

Truck is high enough that you don't have to jack it up.Where is the oil drain plug and oil filter located on a mercedes benz ml 430?
It's designed so that the old oil can be pumped out the dipstick tube. This requires a vacuum tank, like an Oil Boy or Topsider. Taking the belly pan out is the hard wajy to do it.

Here is an illustrated guide showing the CORRECT procedure:

After changing the oil, you should reset the service reminder system. The procedure for this is documented in your owner's manual.Where is the oil drain plug and oil filter located on a mercedes benz ml 430?
it's actually a 13mm wrench for the drain plug
