Where is the oil filter located at for the suzuki ltr450?

In the FWD RH part of the engine base you will see a round cap with three ';8mm';* (5/16';) or ';10mm';* nuts holding it on.

Below that cap is the oil filter.

Right under the cylinder and exhaust as pictured:

Make sure you replace with one with the right value due to relief valve spring tension being different, even though they look the same.

  • What does it mean if there is oil in my air filter?

If you have a K %26amp; N or equivallent cold air intake there will be oil in the filter. There shouldn't be a lot of oil...it shouldn't be dripping all over the place, but there will be oil. If there is a lot, then your PCV valve should be replaced. What does it mean if there is oil in my air filter?
it could mean your PCV is clogged...but most likely it means you are getting blow by..this is caused by weak piston rings..may be time to trade in or think about doing an engine rebuild. What does it mean if there is oil in my air filter?
    PVC valve need changed
Depending on how much oil is in your air filter if there is only smear nothing to worry about. But if there is a lot then start looking for another engine.
You probably don,t know this But there is a little oil on the filter anyway , To catch foreign particles good luck, Hope this helped.

Where is the oil filter located on a 2005 chevy cobalt.?

It most likely has the 2.2liter ecotec engine which has the filter located on the top of the engine right next to the intake manifold infront of the transmission. U do need a special tool to get it out or u can use a 1 1/4'; shallow socket to remove the cover.Where is the oil filter located on a 2005 chevy cobalt.?
Near the oil pan, under the exhoust manifold(headers), or it could be a cartrige which is located at the side of the engine in a cylinder shaped black tube.

Do the different kinds of oil filters REALLY make a difference ?

I usually use an STP oil filter (usually around$ 3.19), but this time around I thought I'd try a K%26amp;N filter which cost $12.99. Just wondering if I should use the K%26amp;N filter everytime......or stick with the trusty STP.Do the different kinds of oil filters REALLY make a difference ?
Based on the first two responses, it is apparent that ignorance is still bliss.

While the K%26amp;N is in fact a much better filter, having a superior flow rate, less pressure drop and finer filtering media than the STP, depending on your vehicles age, previous maintenance history and how you drive it, a cheaper filter will possibly do you just as good of a job.

That being said, the STP filter is one of the poorest filters available as it is just a re-branded generic filter. Again depending on the factors I mentioned above, if you want a good filter for a reasonable price, go with Baldwin (hard to find but outstanding quality), Wix or NAPA gold which is a Wix with a different box. They are all available for about $6 depending on the part number.Do the different kinds of oil filters REALLY make a difference ?
Dear Elusive ()Ne:.....IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY honey!!!!

    I gave you a THUMBS-UP for a fantastic question...unlike most !!!

Believe me when I tell you, I work closely with many professional racing teams and STP is good enough for them...as far as K%26amp;N is concerned; does 'overkill' mean anything to you???

EVEN BETTER SAVE YOUR MONEY %26amp; buy a Wix oil filter.
    your wasting your money

I just changed my oil with some semi-synthetic oil 10W-30 and got the best filter?

Do you think that a high mileage $9 filter (Fram) will do better than the 2.99 filter to clean the oil? My car is a 98 Grand Cher with 119,000mi, burns no oil and runs like new. Do you think the filter makes a diff?

I like taking good care of my bread 'n butter so it'll take care of me.I just changed my oil with some semi-synthetic oil 10W-30 and got the best filter?
All filter manufacturers made different grades of filters. All of them have to meet the minimum car makers specs. But there are advantages to the premium filters. They're made will better filter materials and metal construction.

The Fram HM filter you're talking about has a gel capsule inside that contains an extra dose of anti-wear additives, dispersant (to prevent the dirt from settling to the bottom of the pan and turning to sludge), anti-corrosives, and seal conditioners.

If you're going to change your synthetic every 3,000 miles, then you can use the $2.99 filters. But they are NOT rated for extended use. The Fram XG and Pureolator GOLD filters are rated for that kind of use.

Refer to the cool oil filter article posted below to see photos of the insides of economy and premium filters.I just changed my oil with some semi-synthetic oil 10W-30 and got the best filter?
The truth of the matter is, the difference between conventional oil and semi-synthetic (which is a blend of conventional and synthetic) is minimal at best. You're not likely to see any gains at all with protection or engine longevity. Keep in mind that the engine already has 119k miles of internal wear, so that damage is already done and irreversible. Starting to use semi-synthetic at this point really is a waste of your money over conventional. I did the math awhile back between using conventional oil for 200k miles versus full-synthetic, and the extra money spend on the synthetic basically added up to almost the cost of a rebuilt engine. Not worth the cost. Also as a side note, it's a total waste of money to get your oil changed every 3k miles. If you check the oil and it's still clean at 3k, its a waste to change it. Trust me. A co-worker does his own oil changes when they are needed based on the color of the oil and he's gotten 200k miles out of his '95 Dodge Stratus. You'll find that even your owners manual states oil changes at much longer intervals than 3k, usually more like 7k or 7,500.
There is much discussion regarding filters and oil. All filters and oil on the market meet ALL OEM requirements for automotive warranties. So if you had a new car and ran the store brand oil and the store brand filter they would have to fix any thing that broke.

That said there are many manufacturers that work on ways to make their filters or oil better than their competitors.

Personally I have ran store brand oil and filters for years and have not had one single problem from it.

IMHO it is a personal choice as to what oil, filters and parts you want to run in your vehicle. Main thing is to keep the maintenance up on time as the OEM recommends.
I use regular NAPA brand or Fram filters and 10w-40 Kendall GT-1 oil on my Hotrod,..

Why is there oil in my air filter?

yea my air filter is totally covered with oil. I dont know how this happened im pretty sure there isnt supposed to be oil on it. Does anybody know whats going on? and if so how can i fix it?

by the way the car is a 2000 mustang 3.8L engineWhy is there oil in my air filter?
The oil is from the tube that supplies your engine clean air for the pcv system. In an ideal world, the air is supposed to be sucked into the engine from the air box and mixes with the combustion gases in the crankcase, to be sucked out and burned in the cylinders through the pcv ( one-way) valve when the engine is running. During certain conditions, the air flow reverses and blows these gases and oil vapor into the air box.( deceleration) Disconnect the 1/2 inch hose mounted on the air box that leads to the engine and with the engine running, check if there is vacuum there. If air is blowing out, replace the pcv valve. A minimal amount of oil in the air box is normal. I have seen excessive amounts before, especially in sports cars where the driver is constantly downshifting to stop. To stop this is more driving modification rather than engine work. If the supply tube is between the filter and the throttle body, you may want to clean your throttle body and intake since at least four times the amount of oil that is on the air filter has been sucked into your intake. Why is there oil in my air filter?
    are you sure it`s not a Vw.....ha....
well that sucks. and sounds like something MAJOR. I would not drive it very far. OR just tow it to a repair shop. Goodluck on that.
Replace you PCV valve, if this does not fix it then you have either a broken or stuck piston ring.........sorry
PCV valve is bad. Replace it.
    back long time ago.in1953-4-5 they had oil bath on filters,,but thats long time.take top of filter off to see where its comming in,hold a dollar in front of exhast,if it trys to pull $bill back in rather out.it sounds like a dropped valve.if you got oil in water u could have a cracked head.i'd go to a good shade tree mech.let him ck.it out%26lt;%26gt;IS%26lt;%26gt;
check PVC valve and any vacuum hose that may have a hole pr crack,Clean it out again and drive it and then look for any leak that would put oil in there , also look at valve covers, hope this helps.
Could be piston blow by,that means your engine breather system is blocked and so building internal pressure up and forcing oil into places it should not go.

There should be a engine crankcase breather located somewhere in the engine compartment this needs replacing, failing that you may have a more serious problem.
Best case scenario; you left the cap off your oil fill. Second best is that is leaking in from somewhere other than the engine. Worst news is that you blew your head gasket. Sorry, but I don't see any good news!
PCV system is blocked, or too much oil in engine, or piston rings worn out

How to change transmission oil and filter in 2002 dodge stratus?

FIRST OF ALL HEED THIS WARNING.IF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS FLUID HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED SINCE NEW CHANGING IT CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO STOP WORKING PROPERLY WHITIN A VERY SHORT TIME AS NEW FLUID WILL DISOLVE ANY BUILT UP VARNISH AND OTHER SUBSTANCES THAT ARE TAKING UP WEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION.But if it has been done on a regular basis then you need to raise and support with JACK STANDS the front end of the vehicle high enough for you to work comfortably under it.Also set the parking brake.Locate the transmissions pan it should be on the drivers side front of the vehicle it will be relativley shallow and have bolts all the way around it,loosen a few of the bolts untill the transmissions fluid starts to drip then place a drain pan thats big enough around to completly surround the transmissions pan and continue loosening and removing the pan bolts I recomend leaving one side of the pan bolted in place while you loosen the other ones starting from opisite the ones you left tightened working from side to side so that the pan comes off in a way that allows the old fluid to drain neatly into the drain pan then remove the remaining bolts allowing the pan to come off, then remove the old filter instal a new one clean the transmission pan of any junk remove the old gasket off the transmission pan and any pieces that are stuck to the transmissions case, apply a light coat of gasket cement to the corners of the transmission pan and put the corner bolts into their holes, carefully place the cleaned transmission pan back in place start threading the corner bolts one by one while supporting the pan with your other hand when the corner bolts are started start installing the rest of the pan bolts BUT DO NOT TIGHTEN THEN ALL THE WAY UNTILL EVERY ONE IS STARTED THEN WORKING IN A CRISS CROSS PATTERN TIGHTEN THE PAN BOLTS EVENLY IT SHOULD TAKE YOU THREE (3) OR FOUR (4) TIMES AROUND THE PAN TO TIGHTEN ALL THE BOLTS COMPLETLY.lower the vehicle off the jack/jackstands,open the hood and find the transmissions dipstick and put a funnel into it's tube then pour about two (2)-three (3) quarts of fresh fluid into the funnel start the vehicle up and with your foot on the brake move the shifter from gear to gear making sure you feel that gear engaging then put the shifter back in the park (p) position pull the transmissions dipstick out wipe it off and put it back into it's tube and pull it out again and if required add enough fluid to bring the fluid level on the dipstick up to the operating/full mark/range and you are all done. How to change transmission oil and filter in 2002 dodge stratus?
Chrysler recommends changing the fluid at 30,000 mile intervals on the 2002 Stratus. It doesn't matter much under normal use whether it is done or not. I have run Chrysler vehicles 100,000 miles with out changing the fluid. The other answerer gives excellent directions on changing the fluid, but wrong advice on whether it has ever been changed. Chrysler 7176 (ATF+4) does not leave any residue in the form of varnish or gum. All that went out with Type A fluid which is not used much in anything now, being superseded by modern fluids.

The only other recommendation I could make is if you have a lot of miles on the car, have the bands adjusted while you have the pan off.

  • I can't get the oil filter off my 89 ford 150?

I did the screw driver through it trick, I'm losing patients. It's beat up good now and hard to grip, any suggestions?

ThanksI can't get the oil filter off my 89 ford 150?
Use an Oil filter strap wrench. It has a square tube that fits 1/2 inch drive ratchets, that has a nylon mesh strap( Similar) your safety belt. They fit every canister type filter and can have a ton of leverage applied to get your stubborn filter off. Napa Carries this type filter wrench. So does walmart in there auto motive section.

This type oil filter wrench is really handy on Bashes up filters. It fits all shapes and sizes crushed, Or in perfect shape. It doesn't matter.I can't get the oil filter off my 89 ford 150?
yep they make all sort of tools to do the job right and the way you have pick was not one..... sinse you have wreak it you have to fight with it to finish it off ....now most wenches wont fit the mess you have to take it off the best way you can piars and a hammer might do it... next time dont tighten it so tight and wet the seal before you put it on hand tight means hand tight screw it on and then turn it like one time and leave it dont tighten it has tight has you can becasue that is way to tight good luck and happy hammering
Well, the base of the filter should still be in tack. I never liked that ';stick a screwdriver through it'; solution myself. If you've purchased a quality loop type oil filter wrench and can dry as much oil as possible off the base of the oil filter, maybe you can try folding some duct tape back in a loop on itself to form double-sided sticky tape. Once you've made up about a foot or so of the double-sided tape, dry the filter base one more time and wrap the tape around it real tightly hoping it will be just thick enough to allow the oil filter wrench to fit over it. Now grit your teeth and put some torque on that sucker!
Do you have an oil filter wrench? The wrench will grip no matter how much battering the filter has taken. They cost about five bucks.
Walmart and other retailers usually sell oil filter wrenches for just a few dollars and are designed to grip the oil filter by completely grippping it on all sides giving you the maximum torque on the filter. These usually are the best devices for removing oil filters even when damaged.
stick a scerw driver through it then turn,if nothing then get a large strap

The heating oil in our part of the country is red so that you can not use it in your road vehicles, they have just added a dye. You have microbiological organsms living in the oil tank You can get rid of it by emptying it and cleaning it out with steam or very hot water. There are also chemicals you can treat it with but there expensive.

How much engine oil do i put in my peugeot 206 1.4 after an oil and filter change?

What on Earth do you think the dipstick is for?

Put in about 1/3rd of a 5litre container and check the dipstick.

Add about half a litre and check the dipstick.

If still too low add a little more oil - its about half a litre between max and min - check the dipstick.

When oil up to full mark on dipstick - replace filler cap and start engine, allow to run for a minute or so.

Stop engine, and guess what - check the oil level on the dipstick.

Top up as required without going over the max mark on the dipstick.

Remember to use your dipstick often - then you won't be one.

  • Does anyone know type and location of engine oil filter on 1.9td 115bhp ford galaxy .?

The oil filter is buried under the fuel injection system at the rear of the engine. The best way to get to it is to jack up the galaxy, use axle stand. Then crawl under the car towards the back of the engine. Don't waste your time trying to get the filter of with a strap wrench, hammer a long screw driver straight through the filter and then use the handle on the screw drive to turn the filter off.

Ja.Does anyone know type and location of engine oil filter on 1.9td 115bhp ford galaxy .?
run the car up on ramps... look under on the sides of the motor and you will find a oil filter.. in the parts store like pep boy s look up the car and engine size and it will give you a choice of many brands to replace what you have.. if you dont have ramps i urge you to buy some.. change your own oil and grease the car with thease ramps.. you will save a lot .

to be honest the filter doesn't matter so long as you buy a known name simply because i've never tried anyhting off brand when it comes to that. the oil that you put in it is what is really important. i use napa gold filters just out of habit. of course your dodge book is going to say mopar thats their brand and they want to keep your money =)Best oil filter for 1993 Dodge Dakota, 72000Miles?
the book always tells you to use mopar filters ,just like on gm cars the book says to use ac filters, but fram has been making filters for a long time and the work just as good if not better than the mopar filters do,i use them all the time, even the pennzoil filters are good, the fram filter will save you money compared to the cost of the mopar one,and is guaranteed to do as good of a job, good luck.
FRAM filters are used on most new cars with there own logo [ie GM]and are warranty safe.
I prefer purolator filters, and buy them at Advance Auto Parts.

Which oil filter? Honda OEM or Mobile 1?

I am going to use Mobile 1 full synthetic on our 07 Civic when the time comes to change it. My only debate now is, which oil filter? Using 5w20 oil and changing it every 5000 miles, will I get any real benefit of spending a couple extra dollars on a Mobile filter? I know Honda's filters aren't actually made by Honda, which is why I'm partially turned off by them. We want to keep the car as long as possible, but just wondering if in the long run, a Mobile filter will be more beneficial.Which oil filter? Honda OEM or Mobile 1?
I always use and personally would recommend you staying with the manufacturer's oil filters, i.e. Honda over Mobil 1. The same is true with any parts that require replacement bec I have found from personal experience that generic ones though cheaper don't last as long as the genuine manufacturer's parts. FYI we have owned several Toyotas from brand new and I have always used the Toyota genuine filter...The longest we have owned any one vehicle was 12 years and 211,000 miles on genuine Toyota oil filters. Also FYI Toyota oil filter will vary by the engine size etc and I'm sure the same applies to Honda and all the Japanese manufacturers. Good Luck!

Where does the oil filter go on a chevy cobalt? can't find it!?

haven't done one on a cobalt yet but if it's anything like the cavaliers which i'm guessing it is it's a paper filter. there should be a black plastic cap on the drivers side towards the front of the car on the engine. it either takes a socket or a 3/8 or 1/2 drive to loosen it then you pull the filter out and put the new one in. like i said i'm not sure the cobalt is set up like that

yeh i checked it you have a paper filter not sure if it's in the same location as the cavalier but it's somewhere on the engine. it's not an external filter that's why you're having trouble finding itWhere does the oil filter go on a chevy cobalt? can't find it!?
Go ahead and get under the hood of the car. Once you pull the oil cap off you can pull off the big plastic cover that sits over the engine. It isn't bolted down, so all you have to do is lift up on it and it will come right off. Once the plastic cover is removed, you will be able to see the canister where the filter goes. It's silver, it hangs directly off the side of the engine, closest to the front of the car, and the top of it has a black, plastic plug that you can remove by turning it with a socket or a wrench, but let me tell you it takes a big one. If you don't have a socket that fits, then you can be creative and try to get it loosened another way. Be careful, don't ruin or bust the plastic top. Once you get it unscrewed, just lift up on the black plug and the filter will come right out with it. Put the new filter in. Make sure the filter canister is empty, and then put it back into the canister and tighten it up. i know, this is not a typical filter, but it is what it is.

A stock Type I engine has a strainer in the bottom of the block. You take it off, wash or replace it, %26amp; put it back on. You can get kits to add a spin-on remote mount filter. This involves changing the oil pump on the rear of the engine, but does a much better job of keeping the oil clean.Does a rail buggy have a oil filter?

the popular ones are fine, the ticket is to change them regularly.
I prefer WIX. Wallmart uses Fram and this last year I replaced 3 motors in cars wallmart did the oil changes on, the fram oil filter leterally fell apart on the inside and would clog the pump

Help changing oil filter on 06 accord v6 lx?

Hi guys, I'm having a lot of problems changing the air filter on my 06 accord v6 lx. I unscrew the casing but I'm unable to take the air filter out. I can't move the casing enough to take out the air filter. The air hose the case is connected won't move far enough to remove the air filter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank youHelp changing oil filter on 06 accord v6 lx?
As with all modern vehicles size constraints greatly reduce the amount of working room underneath the hood. Having owned 5 Hondas myself I know what you are up against trying to replace your air filter. I would go to the Honda dealership and have the service department counter photocopy the page in the manufacturers repair manual that explains the steps in replacing the filter. Read it thoroughly and keep it close while you work through the process. It has worked for me before on a lot of other repairs. Try it out. Good luck.Help changing oil filter on 06 accord v6 lx?
buy a manual from repco its will show you how, usually you have to just slip ur hand in the small gap and pull it out (you will scratch you hand) thats wat i have to do with my civic
Oh god if you can't do this then you really shouldn't be anywhere near a car let alone fill up the window washer fluid.
Tighten it back up, take it to a JiffyLube and let them change the filter for you (you can take your new filter with you). Watch how they do it and next time you will know the procedure, but for now, you will be getting the job done correctly and without getting your hands dirty, and learning something new.
There's probably something else you have to take off first. Go to your library, and check out a manual for your car. You should find all your answers there.

Is it really better to use high mileage oil and oil filters on older cars?

I have a beretta that has 208,000 miles and just started using fram high mileage oil filters and GTX high mileage oil. Does the high mileage really make a difference or am I just wasting money? Thanks. Oh yeah and if I am just wasting money what kind of oil and filter should i be buying? Is it really better to use high mileage oil and oil filters on older cars?
I was just wondering this myself. I drive a 98 Honda Civic that's got about 150K on it.

I found the answer I'm happy with:

    ';So what is a ';high mileage'; oil you ask? [T]hese oils have two additives in them which are more suited to older engines. The first is normally a burnoff-inhibitor which helps prevent the oil from burning off if it gets past an engine seal into the combustion chamber. The second is a 'seal conditioner' [...] designed to soak into seals such as head- and rocker-cover gaskets and force them to expand. Thus if one of the seals is a bit leaky, the seal conditioner will attempt to minimise the leak.';

The same site recommends sticking with normal oil unless you experience:

    * smokey/sooty exhaust

    * oil leaks

    * engine consuming oil

I know that my car does seem a little light on oil whenever I change it, so I'll probably keep going with the high mileage oil.

As for filters, I've done research on that, too. A lot of people hate FRAM and other ';cheap'; filter companies, but unless you've got your car amped up on performance enhancers or put a lot of strain on your car, the cheap filters are probably fine. I usually stick with FRAM because they're widely available and have the grippers for easier removal. Is it really better to use high mileage oil and oil filters on older cars?
If the car runs fine then there's really no reason, personally I think it's just a marketing play, like ';senior vitamins';. Just keep up on all the other maintenance and regular oil changes and it'll continue to run good with or without ';high mileage'; oil.
i think it does help my 86 ford has 260,000 miles and still runs fine.

.the oil does have a additive to soften your valve stem seals

What kind of maintenance can I do for my car on my own (e.g. changing oil & filter etc.)?

Wash it.What kind of maintenance can I do for my car on my own (e.g. changing oil %26amp; filter etc.)?
    Well ';if you know how';, AND ';have the right tools';, ';time and Space';

You can maintain the brakes front/rear, all fluids, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs/wires, timming, coolant, transmission, bulbs (lights), interior detail cleaning/fixing broken parts... Lube undercar, tire rotation. What kind of maintenance can I do for my car on my own (e.g. changing oil %26amp; filter etc.)?
Depends on the tools and the space you have.

You can do almost every thing if you have the right equipment.
depends on how big your tool box is and what kind of car it is.

If it is brand new... good luck with anything more than:

Oil and filter change, air filter, coolent, belts and MAYBE spark plugs and wires.

If you COOL you can get to the gas tank, alternator, water pump, fuel filter, heater core and radiator.

If you have to ask what the green stuff is... stick to the oil and air filter.

If it is an older car 90s and older... you can do just about anything a mechanic can do. It will take you longer.... but that is when the size of your tool box comes in.

If you have very little experience with cars, then get a manual from autozone/ parts store and go through it. You will quickly see what tasks your skill level is will to undertake and what you don't want to mess with.

The easy things in older cars are: oil filter, air filter, radiator, alternator, plugs %26amp; wires, heater core, distributor. Stay away from breaks until you kow what your doing.

    Best wishes!
Depends on your mechanical skills and tools you own. You can change , oil , filters, plugs, wires, coolant, rotate tires, change trans. fluid and filter, egr valve, keep it clean.

How do people choose oil filters for engines that dont specify a size?

Does each number Oil Filter size up go by a measurement or something. How do people choose oil filters for engines that dont specify a size?
I'm not sure if you're referring to the physical length, width and diameter or it's filtration capacity in microns.

First, any auto parts store can advise you of the exact factory replacement replacement physical size for your application. They also can cross reference physical size for extended lengths if there is room if that's what you're asking. It's important to remember not to change arbitrarily the sealing gasket diameter or weather or not if it has an anti-drain back valve.

If you've ever read or been interested in filtration capturing ability it can get confusing. I'm sure you've heard of the term: Micron filtering capacity. 1 micron = .000039 thousandths of one inch. In most automotive oil filter applications companies will actually advertise their micron filtration capacity. In other words: It's ability to capture a given micron size.

In this instance ';Moor's Law'; is not always better. On the surface you'd think a filter that captured the smallest size dirt particles it would be better. However, in automotive applications it's been determined that an oil filter that captures a particle size of 20 - 25 microns is adequate. It's been found that filtering below 20 microns will soon open the by-pass valve inside the filter and you get no filtration at all. This could happen well within 3,000 miles.

I'll admit to being an old woman when it comes to oil filter selection and physical size where ';Moor's Law'; is better What ever the application, larger filtration * surface area is always better. My ';thing'; is stick in the largest physical sized filter that you conviently can install which also meets the internal valving as required by the manufacturer.

A word to the wise. Don't be fooled by the physical size of the oil filter. Look inside and make sure the filtering media goes clear to the bottom of the can. If possible find out from the manufacturer how many square inches of filtering media there is in a given filter.

How do people choose oil filters for engines that dont specify a size?
There is a sticker under the hood called a catalyst. This should have a engine size and the year the car was made. If there is no sticker (catalyst) then count the spark plug wires and if there's four then you have a four cylinder. Go to the auto parts store and look up the year of your car and the four cylinder and you should get the right filter. You can also get the manufactures name and number off the filter already on the car and have the auto parts store cross reference that number to a number of the type they sell.
All engines have a specific size. There is a sticker under your hood that lists all the emission and engine size information. If for some reason the sticker is missing or cannot be read anymore, look at the v.i.n. number for the 8th digit. The 8th digit of the v.i.n. number is the engine code. You can take that number to any auto parts store, along with the year, make and model of your vehicle, and find out the correct engine size to determine correct oil filter application.
The identification of oil filters is arbitrary. When a new filter size or design is needed, they just add a number.

For years each maker had a set thread for the filter and a seating area for the gasket. Fords always use to take the F-1 filter, but with engine bays becoming smaller filters were needed to be made to fit into a specified place.

So in most cases it is not the engine size that determines the filter number but who made the car.
If all of the vehicles labeling is gone then you would call your cars dealership parts department and give them the VIN and they will tell you the size of the engine.
look at the 1 that,s on your car now and get the same 1 for your car. filters usually has a number on the filter.

    2007 Camry oil filter removal?

I found the oil filter after a while, and it seriously look like someone positioned it there NOT to be removed. Like they always want the dealer to do it. I got an oil filter wrench to take it off, but it's extremely hard to get it tightened enough to turn it, and even when I do get it close to tightened, the space I used to tighten it is already used up so I can't turn it. Has anyone else had this problem on my make and model? What did you do?

2.4 v62007 Camry oil filter removal?
What he said above2007 Camry oil filter removal?
Ummm...do NOT do what these people are telling you are ';drive a screw'; through the bottom to get the filter off. It's a canister filter. If you having this much of a hassle, just get the dealer to do it.
With the proper tool, which is a cup with flutes,to remove the housing, the job will be much easier. On 2007 and up, Toyota uses cartridge type oil filters,so your oil filter wrench has no room to turn.
first off your camry is not a 2.4 V6. the 4 Cyl Camry uses a 2AZ-FE 2.4 Liter engine the V6 Camry is powered by a 2GR-FE 3.5 Liter V6 Engine. On the 4 Cyl it uses a regular canister oil filter mounted under the car right next to the oil pan. on the 6 Cyl Camry its a cartridge and should be removed just like the people above said.

    Hope this Helps
The 2007 camry V6 uses a cartrige type filter. When removing the filter housing there is a small 3/8 drive square at the bottome. Using a ratchet and extension, you can open a small port that will allow you to drain the oil inside the housing. To remove the housing to get to the cartridge, you will need to you a oil filter ';socket cap'; as I call it. It is sold by toyota the dealers and it goes onto the houseing part witht he many ribs. Put the 3/8drive extension in the ';socket cap'; put the ratchet in the extension and it will come off and tighten back on the same way. Be sure not to damage the new O-rings that come with the new filter when putting them on. I suggest getting a copy of the factory repair manual. It will have pictures and torque specs so you are sure not do damage anything. It may be pricey, but well worth it if you do most of the car work yourself. Hope this helps.
sometimes those wrenches that use a rubber strap that's adjustable work, if you have enough room, a large pair of Channel Locks might also work.

As a last resort, and I only recommend this you're pretty good mechanically and know what you're doing, you can drive a screw driver thru the end of the oil filter and use it to turn the filter off. You have to know what you're doing or else you'll hit the screw that the oil filter revolves on. This is what I've had to do for oil filters that were overtightened or hadn't been changed in years and were really stuck on.

You might try calling the Toyota dealer and see if there's a special wrench that they use for this and order one if you plan to make this a habit.

Also, make sure its really the oil filter you're working on. Toyota parts department or maybe even your owners' manual will help you out here.

The high mileage oils contain aditives that help keep your seals pliable and do a better job of removing sludge.

The filters often have a PTFE additive that helps combat friction as well as denser media to help trap more of the particles high mileage engines produce.

  • Does a 98 chevy cavalier need a certain oil filter or it doesn't matter?

You need to know whether you have a 2.2 liter motor or a 2.4.

The 2.2 K%26amp;N Oil Filter is part number: HP-1001

The 2.4 K%26amp;N Oil Filter is part number: HP-1007

K and N is just a suggestion the autoparts store should be able to cross reference those numbers to other brands.Does a 98 chevy cavalier need a certain oil filter or it doesn't matter?
Yes it matters. You have to get the right oil filter depending on the size of your engine. Go to an auto parts store and they have a book with the sizes in it. Or better yet just ask them and they can pull it up on their computer.Does a 98 chevy cavalier need a certain oil filter or it doesn't matter?
    Yes.

Go to pep boys and either find the book hanging up in the oil filter section or find the little device which tells you the part number. It's not hard to find, but you need the right one.
The 2.2 uses the old short ac #47 or equivalent
