I brought this question to you last week and followed all of the ';good'; answers I received. Thanks. The car is still very sluggish and has no ';gitty up and go'; at all. I thought there might have been a problem with the valves or lifters, but I've noticed other sounds and smells the last few days. I smell gasoline fumes in my car and a ';tinny'; sound coming from the outside. If my exhaust system came loose from the manifold (from going over railroad tracks, etc), would that cause the sluggish ';gitty up and go,'; the fumes, and the ';tinny'; sound I'm hearing???Why is my car is still running rough? I changing the oil, filter, plugs, wires and added a gas treatment.?
Sounds like the catalytic converter is partially stopped up and needs replacement. If you hear a rattling sound when bumping the catalytic converter with your hand, then that's the problem. Why is my car is still running rough? I changing the oil, filter, plugs, wires and added a gas treatment.?
check the fuel filter, make sure the hoses are ok and not cracked or loose and also it may need to be timed
You did not say if you replaced the distributor cap or rotor. Also what about your fuel/air filter, fuel pump. Your catalytic converter may be clogged up. You might want to check to see if you have any bad fuses or relays.
Good luck this time.
After you replace the air and filter filter, then cap and rotor, check your fuel lines and get your carburetor checked. It sounds may have a fuel leak somewhere. Exhaust leaks reduce power but not like your are talking about. The only other thing it might be is a timing issue. The firing sequence may be off causing the fuel to burn improperly. So next steps is, if filters and cap and rotor don't fix the problem: repair/replace carburetor or replace/adjust timing belt. I hope this helps.
Have you checked the air filter? There is a good chance your catalytic converter is getting clogged.
