Yes. All of the oil pumps I have seen have some type of screen to keep out large pieces. But to put a filter on the inlet of an oil pump would create to much of a restriction and the pump wouldn't work. A pump can only pull so much because atmospheric pressure provides the push (14.7 psi at sea level and less at altitude). But a pump can push a lot (an automotive pump could probably make 150-200 psi if the relief valve was blocked But are regulated to 40-60 psi normally). That is why the filter on most any engine is after the pump. Even then these filters have a bypass to let cold thick oil get to the engine that wouldn't normally flow through the filter media until it warms up and thins out. Yes they usually do. I have seen some on race cars modified without the screen and use only the paper fiber R micro mesh (metal) filter and no slump screen. They can do this because they tear-down the engine so often and inspect the oil pump (outside pump) for wear. less Hp to the pump is more Hp to the rear wheels (even so slight). Also the pic-up tube can be placed at different angles to compensate for oil starvation, acceleration and servere vehicle maneuvers .
Yes on most models of vehicles you have a screen in the oil pan which then goes to your oil pump. the oil that then comes from the pump goes through a filter
yep they do. they have a long tube that sits in the oil and it has a screen on the bottom of it. and what does gets through the filter stops it from getting into the engine.
