What would cause oil to be on my car's air filter?

If I take the air filter off and run the engine I see oil coming in the housing where the air filter is. By the way it is a 94 dodge Spirit. What would cause oil to be on my car's air filter?
My first guess would be bad PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) Valve. When it goes bad, it allows oil from your engine to enter your intake shroud which leads to your filters.

If it were you're rings, I would suspect you'd be coming here asking about other more serious problems. What would cause oil to be on my car's air filter?
Check your PCV valve when they clog up they can cause Blowby (oil in airfilter housing) if it isn't clogged you have some bad oil rings in you engine.
Your rings are blown

When was the last time you looked at the dip stick, Or tuck your car in for a change.
either a bad pcv valve or piston blow by. Hopefully it is just the pcv valve cheap fix.
how many miles on engine could also be valve guides or seats
theres always a little oil on the filter its normal just clean it but im not sure about the housing
not normal!

Cause:

plugged, or defective pcv valve,

and/or hose leading to.from it.

Also too much oil added to the car.

it w. ruin your air filters till you fix prob
