How many quarts of oil for oil and filter change in 97 2500 v10?

According to the Dodge repair manuals:

Type: GF approved

Amount: 6.6 liters

Weight: below 0 degrees F 5W30

above 0 degress F 10W30How many quarts of oil for oil and filter change in 97 2500 v10?
more then likely it's about 5 to 6 quarts if it's anything more then a 5.7 liter engine then you'll want to put in about 6 to 7 quarts oil filter up a little before installing, and check the dipstick...

98 Pontiac Montana. The oil gets out through the oil filter gasket.?

98 Pontiac Montana. 5 seconds after I start the engine, the oil filter gasket blows and all the oil gets out.

I replaced the filter and I got the same problem.

It looks like the oil can not get up in the engine.

There is any valve witch is stuck? Or please tell me what may cause the problem.98 Pontiac Montana. The oil gets out through the oil filter gasket.?
Listen to BobWeb.........GM filter part number 25010792(PF47) with anti-drain back check valve.98 Pontiac Montana. The oil gets out through the oil filter gasket.?
A couple of things could be happening-

It is common for a do-it-yourselfer to not check the filter mounting surface of engine to see if the old gasket was left behind. If the old gasket is left in place when the new filter was installed, the old gasket will likely blow. Make sure the old gasket comes off with the old filter.

Did the new filter screw on easily? It's also easy to cross-thread the filter and cause it to not seal properly on the mounting surface. The threads on the engine are more durable, so if it did go on incorrectly, you may need to replace the filter.

Make sure that you put the filter on according to the directions - usually 3/4 turn after contact with the mounting surface.

Good luck
better run with the dodge man on this one Ive seen more than one tech buy an engine for this easy to make mistake
Remove the oil filter once again and make positively sure that the old oil filter gasket came off with the old filter. Reach up with your fingers to make sure the old gasket's not still stuck in place. Also, double check for the correct new oil filter part number and I recommend buying the OEM filter manufacturer's brand. Some engines may require the car manufacturer's specified oil filter to work correctly on your car.
Get a good light under the car. Take out the oil filter. Shine the light up where it goes. See that old gasket stuck on the part where it screws in? Get your scraper and remove every trace of that. Now get your rag and clean around that lip where you just took off the old gasket.

Now get a brand new filter. See the gasket there, already in place? Get a little oil on your finger and coat that gasket with oil. Now put it on, by hand. DO NOT PICK UP THAT WRENCH. Turn by hand until it touches the surface of the engine. Now turn it by hand 3/4 of a turn more.

Make sure there is oil in the engine, and start it. Check for leaks. If it is oozing, tighten it BY HAND a wee bit more.

Clean up your tools and put them away, wash your hands. Smile, you're done.
i own a repair shop, and the only time i have ever seen this happen is when the old gasket from the old filter didn't come off with the filter and this will cause it to leak like that, you can remove the filter again and check to see if there's an old gasket stuck on the housing, that's about the only thing other than it not being cleaned off real good that will cause this to happen, good luck with it i hope this help,s.

For the weekend-mechanics: What's the best oil filter $6 can buy?

I have been using Mobil 1 5W-30 and K%26amp;N filter ($9 @ Amazon.com) for my 1997 Nissan Altima (255k+ miles!), but I think it's an overkill since my Bosch premium oil filters for my BMW only cost $6 (advanceautopart.com). So I'm thinking I should not be going over $6 for my Nissan. But I also want to avoid ';junk'; filters. If your suggestion is online, please include a link. Thanks! For the weekend-mechanics: What's the best oil filter $6 can buy?
Purolator. For the weekend-mechanics: What's the best oil filter $6 can buy?
my choice has always been fram ,they have never gave me any problems at all ,and they cost around 5 bucks, but work well in what i use them in,good luck with it.
Fram are the least respected by those 'in the know'. I'm talking about those who have cut them open, counted pleats, measured surface area, spring tensions for bypass, checked for bypass screens etc., etc., etc., . Bosch are highly favored, as are Mobil1. Having said that, I use Fram's when it is convenient. My opinion is that the important thing is to change oil %26amp; filter OFTEN.
myself,i either buy fram or puralator.they are both good filters and they dont cost very much.

What Oil Filter for a 2007 Ram 1500 (6 cyl) ?

Fram does not have PNs for the 2007 Ram yet.

But their oil filter for a year 2006 Ram w/3.7L V-6 is PH3600.

K%26amp;N oil filter is HP-2009.

Whatever first poster, you dont know anything about changing oil I see.

Its an ecotec engine right? Look on the top of the motor under and to the right of the intake manifold for a big plastic hex nut on a shell. Theres a tool that locks around that and it spins off to reveal a drop in filter. Change the o-ring that comes with the paper filter. Old school/benz engineering from chevy. .

When you get an oil change do they replace the air filter also. if not my grandpas 1998 oldsmobile 88 has.?

never had its air filter replaced since he got it, it might not be that bad. but whats the maximum length of time to keep the same filter in for. and is it bad to keep it in for a long time. or will it just lower MPG. it wont ruin the engine will it?When you get an oil change do they replace the air filter also. if not my grandpas 1998 oldsmobile 88 has.?
If he has been using those jiffy joints for service, they might not have did any work other than oil, oil filter and a chassis lube. A dealership may perform more detailed work, but they would likely have invoices for the parts and the cost would be more than the specialist oil center.

A ten year old air filter would be considered bad in my opinion. It could, rot, tear, or clog.

I think a regular service interval is 30,000 miles. The elements are cheap enough to do at least yearly or more often. Consider a new filter the equivalent of your regular breathing. Now simulate a dirty filter by holding your shirt over your nose and mouth and try to breathe. You need to work harder to breathe and will be less efficient without the normal volume of air you expect to take in. Likewise, mileage will decrease. The possibility exists that unburned fuel can dilute and break down the engine oil and increase engine wear. A torn filter can allow debris to enter the engine unimpeded, possibly causing major damage if the debris is dirt or sand. When you get an oil change do they replace the air filter also. if not my grandpas 1998 oldsmobile 88 has.?
If requested for an air filter change is done then they will do it. It will decrease the engine performance but rarely ruins the engine!!
no they do not replace the air filter and by the sounds of it you should replace it now.
only on request. they change the oil, oil filter. maybe check the fluids and breaks.
they should ask you to change the filter ....have it changed though

Can someone tell me what is wrong when the oil in the car is coming up through the air filter? Is this costly?

The oil pressure is a little lower than normal. Sounds the same, no loss of power noted. Significant amount of oil.Can someone tell me what is wrong when the oil in the car is coming up through the air filter? Is this costly?
Your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve is stuck open. Replace it for less than $10.00 (US) at any auto parts store. Can someone tell me what is wrong when the oil in the car is coming up through the air filter? Is this costly?
Most likely it is too full of oil (filled past the mark on the dip stick) pretty common problem. Park the car on a flat level surface. Let it set of bout 10 minutes. Pop the hood and remove the dipstick. Wipe it clean and re-insert it all the way. Pull it out again and look at the marks on the stick. ANYWHERE between low and full is fine. Also, make sure you are checking the motor oil and not the transmission oil.
The pcv valve sends unburnt emissions back into the intake system to be burned. try a new pcv valve.
check the pcv valve. the motor has to get air somewhere and if the pcv valve stops up then it will go where ever it can.
You probably have a clogged PCV valve.

AC filter is a 7 micron filter.

K%26amp;N is 10 - 20 micron filter. What are the top 3 Oil filters for consumer vehicles in your opinion or from what you have read?
Wix, Fram or OE equipment ---for general use, no real difference but price.
Wix is best, they make filters for NAPA, CarQuest, and Their own box........look at the small print on the box and get Wix.
I have always used Fram or original equipment filters. They all do the job and have to meet the same minimum specifications.
I use Fram, never had any problems.
Honestly, it really doesn't matter. You're going to change it every 3k miles anyway, right? The best way to make absoloutly sure that the filter has any catch valves and is designed just right for your car is to get one from the dealership. But the large majority are generic anyway.

Automotive oil filter which the center tube collapsed...?

I have a automotive oil filter which the center tube collapsed and I'm trying to determine the most likely cause for the failure. It has been confirmed that the filter was not the correct size for the application (e.g. wrong filter for the car). However, the filter did install properly and did not leak. Two weeks later the car reported low oil pressure and upon subsequent inspection the filter's center core was collapsed. No bulge was visible in the filter and it will still stands upright when stood on its closed end. The oil in the oil pan contained significant metal shavings. The mechanic deduced that the cause was the installation of the improper oil filter which collapsed and released filter material into the engine which blocked the oil pickup tube.

Couple of questions. 1. Does this scenario appear to be a reasonable determination of cause in your opinion? 2. Has this scenario ever been documented before (e.g wrong filter application leading to filter failure and subsequent engiAutomotive oil filter which the center tube collapsed...?

    Help getting oil filter off?

I have a 1994 honda accord, and my friend was trying to change my oil today and he could not get the oil filter off! he said he's never had a problem getting one off before, and when a body shop does changes they usually put them back on really tight.. soo..

i have a wrench and everything, is there anything i can do to get it to come off? any tips/tricks? i'm trying to change it before i go out of town tomorrow, and don't want to take it somewhere to get it changed.

    thanks!Help getting oil filter off?
If it won't turn with a filter wrench, here's two suggestions. Puncture it, or dent it.

One method is to put a whole right through it and then slide a long screwdriver through it and turn it, if their is room.

If you have a pair of oil filter pliers, you can squeeze the filter really tight and dent it. This allows the pliers to get a good grip on the filter, The pliers usually have nice and long handles, grab the bottom of the handles for more leverage, and turn hard. The filter will come soon enough.

Good luck.Help getting oil filter off?
Sounds like this time you need to just take it somewhere and get it done, then your in-and-out and you dont have to worry about it. Next time plan on doing it yourself, when you go to buy the oil filter match it with the best filter wrench then you have the right tools for the job.

If you are dead set on him doing it he could drive a long screwdriver thru it and get it loose that way.
Get a cup style oil filter wrench that fits onto bottom of oil filter, and has a 3/8'; square drive hole in it, then use a ratchet to turn it.

I have drove a screwdriver through them in the past to remove, but be carfull. The metal they are using now for filter cases is very thin. If it rips apart you my be up that creek with out a paddel
Hey, I'm a Honda %26amp; Ford guy. Your friend is right, and oil places DO crank the filters on. They heat %26amp; expand, cool %26amp; contract. Here's my opinion for a cheap fix...

Get your friend to roll underneath, and locate the filter. Using his right hand to reach up to the filter behind the engine (before the firewall). Using the largest, and widest diameter screwdriver you have, hammer it near the base (closed end) of the filter. He should make a hole on the filter that is closer to the driver's tire direction. He NEEDS to puncture the opposite side of the filter as well (2 holes in the filter now). Oil will drip down, EVERYWHERE. When it's finished dripping, crank the screwdriver as leverage and rotate it counter-clockwise. It will come out fine. It's messy, but simple enough. He can do it.

OR...he could just refill your oil and use the old filter. NO%26lt; it won;t kill the engine and its not terrible. Your engine will be fine. Just change it next time. Fitlers can last that long...

OR...worse case scenario, he tries it, gets oil everywhere, and mangles the filter. He needs to try again and not give up. He can do it, it is really easy. Get longer leverage and try again in the hole. It will work loose.

A tow truck can take it to a mechanic, but its not necessary.

For a long time I could only buy parts at the dealership, but due to poor sales the dealership was taken over by the yellow van company. With this merger they only made an orange oil filter. I found a Red store in Berlin but they only handle stuff that had great communist leaders and revolutionaries. The Castro can worked in a pinch but the Lenin leaked all over the place. And eventually even they went out of business because they did not believe in money. I bought a Blue van and painted it red but everyone who knows anything about red vans can tell it is a blue van. Only those that do not know about the red van's think it is a red van and not a blue van painted red. Sorry my answer was not much help, since I no longer own a red van, but were I back in the states I would have kept it. So the best of luck.

Oil filter will not come off. I really need help.?

I've tried two different wrenches. I even tried a t-handle. It just ripped the filter. How can I take it off?Oil filter will not come off. I really need help.?
I think most part stores like Harbor Freight carry oil filter wrenches that come in many different sizes to fit the filter. It just looks like a big socket that attaches to a 3/8'; drive socket wrench. It is really easy and way more effective than one of the adjustable ones. If all else fails, just stab a screwdriver through the filter and twist. When you get the old one off, make sure the gasket comes off with it. Also, when putting on the new filter, make sure it is hand-tight. The heat seals the gasket. Hope this helps.Oil filter will not come off. I really need help.?
Don,t worry about damaging the old filter since it is scrap anyway. Hammer a screw driver through the center of the filter and then use that to break it loose. You will now have two handles to twist the thing off. If that doesn't work, then your last option is to remove the old filter a bit at a time. Use a cold chisel and hammer, but be very careful not to gouge the base that the filter screws onto. Once the filter is off, make sure that all traces of the old gasket are removed before installing the new filter. Don't forget to oil the gasket on the new filter before installing.
if worse comes to worse, just take a screw driver and a hammer and drive the screwdriver right threw the Side of the oil filter, about halfway down or so.

Then just torque it off, using the screwdriver as a grip!

(the screwdriver will give you TONS of more leverage and power.)

I had to do this with my mustang once, it's not a clean pretty way to get the filter off, but it WORKS EVERYTIME.....as long as you got room to fit a screwdriver in there and break it loose.
First thing to do is make sure that you are turning it the right way. If the casing has not torn all the way off you may try cranking on it some more. You can also take a brass chisel and hammer and tap the base of the filter to loosen it.
i saw them so tight before i had to ram a screwdriver through them to get it off. if it,s almost tore up then finish tearing it up and then there should be a big nut on it. put a socket on it and twist it off. i had to do that too.
If you have room, you can use a pipe wrench near the top of the filter, they haver great grip and you can get a lot of torque on them.
Being as you have already ripped open the outer housing, cut or tear off as much of it as you can. This might allow you to grab the base plate and twist it off.
wipe off as much of the oil on what is left of the filter, an adjustable strap wrench is your best bet......get the strap as close to the base of the filter as possible...the following link is what you are looking for

    http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Strap-Wrench
Take a screwdriver, and a hammer, drive the screwdriver through the filter, remove the filter.
There is an oil wreanthat looks like a pair of pliers with big teeth. They have not ever failed me.
    Turn it counter-clockwise.
Try to use a air chisel around the base of the filter.
Hammer a big screwdriver right the way through it and twist it off.

Ford Focus engine oil & filter change ?

I have a quick question about my Ford Focus 1.8 petrol. I have just had my car serviced and checked the oil level myself before I left the garage. I was minutely about the max mark on the dipstick, so I wasn't concerned. I checked it again after it had been left standing overnight outside my house and found it was slightly higher than at the garage. When they change the oil/filter does some of the oil they add remain in the oil filter until the engine has been running and is that the reason for the discrepancy ?Ford Focus engine oil %26amp; filter change ?
When left lying, oil can drain down from around the cam shaft %26amp; cylinder head area, this is why the oil level is different, Doesn't do any harm as there is enough oil held in the oil galleries to supply the critical components on start up.Ford Focus engine oil %26amp; filter change ?
The dipstick measures the oil level at the sump (the lowest point in the engine). If your engine is hot, oil is still surrounding parts that are above the sump. The ';trickle down Theory'; is at work here. As it cools, more oil is registered.

    Gravity. What a concept.

To quote the Aussies, ';No worries, mate';.
Two things to think about, first when the engine has been running the top section of the engine will be full of oil (Cylinder head etc), it takes some time for this oil to drain back down into the sump. Secondly it is always recommended to check the oil when the engine is warm for exactly this reason.

    Ja.
When you change oil and filter. The oil will be higher right after you change oil because your oil filter does absorber some oil. So that is probably why. But if it keeps going down you probably blew the oil pan gasket and it would be leaking around the oil pan.
Oil level should be checked on a warm engine. The amount of oil your car holds should be close to 5 quarts with filter change. Check it warm, same goes for transmission fluid. After the engine sits the oil that would normally be in the head has drained to the oil pan. That is why they say cold starts are what damages an engine not the amount of miles/Kilometers.

Yup. The little cover with 3 bolts on it. Right under the front exhaust pipe. Nice bike, but a pain in the butt to maintain!

May as well figure out how to do valve adjustments too since you need to check 'em every 4000 miles!

If you're a do it yourselfer, buy a clymer manual for it. The best 30 bucks you'll invest in your bike!Does anyone know where the oil filter is on a vstar 650 Yamaha? just got this one and cant find filter?
As has been said, behind the front header pipe.

While you've got the header loose to get at that dad-burned filter... go get an oil filter 'relocator' kit. It will allow you to swap the filter without having to mess around with the exhaust system in the future.
Yup. What he said. Behind the front exhaust pipe is a round cover. The clever engineers at Yamaha hid it behind there...
The oil filter change is not a two minutes operation, to change the filter is hard to get to since you have to remove parts of the exhaust system to get to it is not fun. But the Bike is ausome. I have had good luck getting parts from http://www.powerpartsplus.com tried a few others but I am sticking with PPP

  • I want to change my Jeep Liberty 2002 engine oil filter.?

Jeep recommends Mopar engine oil filter but the MOPAR filter I find locally is shorter than the one currently on my Liberty. The one on my Liberty is not MOPAR. can I use the shorter MOPAR engine oil filter? Thanks for any helpful advice.I want to change my Jeep Liberty 2002 engine oil filter.?
Yes. the MOPAR filter would be the best to use. The MOPAR part # is 4781452BB.

Hope this helps.I want to change my Jeep Liberty 2002 engine oil filter.?
Jeep is always going to recommend MOPAR everything because they make a profit off it. MOPAR is overpriced and not needed. The same part (in you case the oil filter) from a different brand will work the same if not better. Dont overpay for MOPAR parts just because it says it in the manual. I use fram oil filters in my grand cherokee because they are the cheapest and they work just fine. If you are going to use the MOPAR filter though as long as it is the right part number then you are good. Filters will vary slightly from brand to brand. Hope this helps. Good luck.
You do not need to use Mopar accessories on your vehicle. Unless you want to pay for the name. I just use whatever filters are on sale, and I always use either Quakerstate, or Penzoil motor oils.

Always use the correct filter for your vehicle. I'm guessing the oil filter on your jeep currently is either incorrect or the mopar filter your looking at isn't the correct one.

Consult your owners manual for the correct manufacturer filter part number, then go to your autoparts store and lookup that number, and find the match for a brand of filter they carry, penzoil, fram, etc.
The size of the filter isn't as important as the function. Also, I own a 2005 CRD, I like the Mopar, but I perfer FRAM. If you are concerned about warranty, don't be. As long as you use the correct type of filter be it Mopar, Fram, Autocraft, STP, ect., you will still be good.
Try to get the correct filter model for your car. A shorter filter means a shorter filtering element inside - the filter should be changed more often than recommended.
If it's the correct replacement for it then you can, it does not have to be the same length as the original as long as it's the correct part # for your vehicle

If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?

That is, if it were feasible to have a separate ';circuit'; for the air in the crankcase to be aggressively exhausted and replaced with fresh ambient air, assuming it's the blow-by being absorbed by the oil that causes the synthetic oils to break down, not the heat in the crankcase or the heat on the cylinder walls. The combustion by-products in blow-by are readily soluble in the synthetic and conventional oils.If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?
There is very little blow-by in modern engines. There are too many laws about polluting. A good synthetic. like ELF or Amzoil or Mobil One, creates NO sludge and gives off very little vapor. The oil vapors are supposed to be burned up through the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. If an engine, weened on lousy regular oil, is de-sludged with butyl cello-solve and most deposits are removed, fresh synthetic oil can last for 25,000 miles or a year and a half. But this depends upon distances driven between start-ups. My Audi's lasted even longer between oil changes. If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?
Acids break down the oil, and acids are part of the combustion process. The air being ingested has a certain water content and that water usually ends up in the oil and helps to form the acids. The blow by of an engine in good operating condition is negligible. There used to be a device called a Franz oil filter that would allow you to run 10 k miles on regular petroleum based oil. So it is my belief that superior filtration and water absorption are the keys to oil longevity, no matter what type.

Look in your owners manual. There is alot of valuable information in that little book! I was surprized when I looked through mine.
Check your owner's manuals, it will tell you where it is and how to test to remove to replace!
On the older CR-V, honda put the oil filter on the back side of the motor about 1/2 way up on the motor, more on the passenger side. Be careful cause it can get really hott!
the filter should be about a foot above the drain plug, just look up.

  • BMW 330ci oil filter hard to remove?

2002 BMW 330ci oil filter is difficult to remove when doing an oil change. Is there a specific way or tool used? Thank you.BMW 330ci oil filter hard to remove?
Get yourself a 36mm socket from an auto parts store like Autozone or Advance Auto Parts... they're much cheaper than Sears.

Then, mate that with a rachet handle to undo your oil filter container.

There is also a more expensive specialized tool which will fit the whole top of the oil filter container, but it wouldn't make the turning resistance any lower.

Your new filter comes with 2 rubber gaskets (o-rings). The large one goes on the top of this container. Moisten the new gasket with some new oil before screwing the top back on. This will make the filter top cover slightly less difficult to undo next time.BMW 330ci oil filter hard to remove?

Hold the bike upright when checking the oil level (as if you were sitting on it, or on the center stand if so equipped).

The oil level window is on the right side of the engine (bottom - rear, on the clutch cover, below the oil fill cap).

    Hold the bike up.

Fill with oil to cover 1/2 of the window.

Start and run the engine for a few minutes - to fill the oil filter and circulate the oil throughout the engine.

Turn off the engine and let it rest for a few minutes - to let the oil settle to the bottom of the crankcase.

Hold the bike up and check the oil level.

Add or drain oil to cover 1/2 of the window.
there is a level gauge ( sometimes a glass panel ) just below the top up hole, HALF way is sufficient, plus its a sports bike so use fully synthetic a 10-40 should do, plus even though it is 600cc it usually takes nearly a litre, ps don't forget to fill th filter with oil as well as greasing the rubber on the filter youget airtight seal then and makes it easier to get off next time! happy riding

    Canister Oil Filter Help?

I just went to get my oil changed with my car and was told that it needs a canister oil filter, making the oil change more expensive.

Where can I find the cheapest canister-type oil filters for a 2007 Pontiac G6 2.4L?

I think that by buying the filter myself (w/ the o-ring included) I could save money but car mechanics are charging me anywhere from $30-35 over this while for other cars not using this oil filter, its about $20 plus tax.Canister Oil Filter Help?
You don't want to buy the cheapest oil filter you can find - there is a big difference in the internal construction of oil filters. A Wal-mart filter is better constructed than a FRAM, believe it or not. Get a good oil filter from a parts store - WIX makes good filters - in several different brands - or get an AC Delco from the dealer parts department. This is not the place to cheap out servicing your car.

And yes, for whatever dumb reason, some of the auto manufacturers have returned to installing a cartridge type filter instead of the easier to change spin-ons. Probably to keep car owners from doing their own service work.Canister Oil Filter Help?
    Someone is lying to you.

They quit using cansiter type filters in the 1950s on cars.

How often should oil filters be changed?

I just changed the oil for my 1994 Toyota Camry without changing the oil filter.

Some mechanics I've talked to say that it should be changed with the oil every time. Others say that it's OK if it's done every other time. Other folks say that it really doesn't matter. How often should oil filters be changed?
Every oil change... What is the point of putting new oil through a dirty filter??How often should oil filters be changed?
Every time, the reason being this...as its used up and gunk and other debris builds up in it, more and more oil is bypassing it, and once completely filled up with gunk, it is no longer filtering this stuff out, so this stuff is going into your engine, your cylinder walls are being scratched, your oil is basically contaminated, giving your engine a shorter life and worse gas mileage. My suggest would be to change it all all over again and when you redo the oil, put in a can of ';Restore'; (silver can in the oil section) to help fix all the scratches.
Every time for best results. For a 94, depending on the mileage, you may want to use high mileage oil. Usually you should change it every 3K miles, but if you use a synthetic oil, you can go a little longer, between 4K and 5K miles. But I would change the filter every time.
You should cahnge it with every oil change. Particulate matter can build up in your filter. If it builds up enough it will slow/ stop the flow of oil to your vital engine components. Besides it's a cheap investment to make sure your camry runs as long as it should.
on some new cars every other, but very specific models only

wouldn't you be a little upset if you lost an engine because you didn't change the oil filter and it happened to get clogged

just do your oil filter every oil change (it's cheap)
Filters are cheap - compared to an engine overhaul! Just change it every time !
Everytime. Oil filters don;t cost that much.

Change your oil and filter every 5000miles and don;t use Fram filters, they are junk.
You should change your filter every time you change your oil. There are oils and filters on the market that let you go a little longer than 3000 miles but both should be changed at the same time.
The filter is under $5. It is pretty cheap way to give it a good maintenance.

    Good Luck...
every time. read your owners manual, it'll say the same.
It varies wit hthe type of driving you do

No oil or fuel filter. The air filter is on the carburetor. Other side of the engine from the exhaust. I would suggest that you get a replacement manual. Check the Troybuilt site they may have it on line. Or MTD, thats who makes them.

When you do an oil change, you change the filter.

Keeping the old filter is bad. Oil filters last as long as oil does.

When you empty the oil out of the car, you use a filter wrench to take the oil filter out.

The oil filter is a cylinder shape as small as a can of soup. It is usually white in color, but it comes in other colors too.

It can be located in 3 places. Under the engine, Behind the engine, or Over the engine.

  • An oil furnace with an electric air filter. The furnace works fine, but the motor constantly runs. Problem?

I am not sure if it is the motor that circulates the air, but it is on 24/7. There is a plug for the air filter which when I unplug it, the fan still runs. The only way to shut off the fan is by a switch that is located on the outside, but that turns off the furnace as well. Isn't there supposed to be some sort of timer that turns the circulation on and off at regular intervals and also is on when the furnace is heating? An oil furnace with an electric air filter. The furnace works fine, but the motor constantly runs. Problem?
On most oil furnaces there is a fan control called a fan and limit switch which controls the fan and the oil burner if the fan does not work...should be on the top front of your furnace above the burner...some of these have a auto and on switch for the fan...this could be set to fan on...if not or if you have ac installed in unit then could be on thermostat fan auto or on switch....if not turn power off and mark wires from fan/limit and replace ...if you need help call a hvac expertAn oil furnace with an electric air filter. The furnace works fine, but the motor constantly runs. Problem?
Ordinarily the fan runs when the furnace is heating, plus a little before and after.

The obvious thing to check is the switch setting on the thermostat; make sure it is not set to FAN or it will run all the time. If that is not the issue - and I'm assuming it isn't, because you can write coherently, so you don't seem to be an idiot :) - then the fault is in the furnace electronic controls. Unless you are good at reading schematics, that is a job for a HVAC professional.
With an electronic air filter this is customary. The filter can only work when the air is circulating. So if you want filtered air the fan must run to accomplish this goal. It dosen't hurt the motor. In fact it is easier than starting and stopping, also in a commercial application this is now code for the fan to run as long as the building is occupied.

angle what do i do1988 chevy k1500 4wd pickup and it is leaking oil at the oil filter adaptor filter is mounted at a 90 degree ?
it sounds like you either have a defective seal on the filter, (it happens) or the old seal may have been left on when the new one was installed. If you are doing the work yourself...drain your oil, (if you just did a change) in to a clean %26amp; dry container. Remove the filter, carefully %26amp; check for extra gasket/seal. inspect oil filter seal for cracks or damage. Clean the surface at the engine block make sure it is free of debris, etc. %26amp; try again. You may want to just buy a new filter %26amp; replace it, cuz there is a lot of work here, it might save you time. The angle of the filter doesn't matter, it is designed that way. Hope I have been of help to you. Good luck1988 chevy k1500 4wd pickup and it is leaking oil at the oil filter adaptor filter is mounted at a 90 degree ?
Is it leaking between 1) the filter and adapter, 2) the adapter and the block, or 3) the oil cooler lines?

If it's 1, then change the filter, make sure gasket surface is clean. If it's 2, then you have to take off the adapter and change the o-rings behind it. And if it's 3, then you can try tightening the lines or you might have to replace them.
take apart and look at seal....if on the filter part maybe the old filter gasket stuck on...if on the block part replace rubber ring/seal...hard to get to...iv worked on a chevy v8.

    2003 Camry oil filter removal?

I have tried every thing and cannot get this filter off, I drove a screw driver through which I realize after the fact was not such a good idea. The filter wrench just keeps slipping. Any ideas?2003 Camry oil filter removal?
Get either a plier style filter wrench like mentioned above or a boa constrictor wrench form your hard ware store, both should get sufficient grip on the filter. If none of these do it for you they sell filter wrenches that are like caps and slide on top of the filter and you loosen with a ratchet. If NONE of the above works I think you might just be out of luck.2003 Camry oil filter removal?
How much did you save attempting to change the oil yourself, about 50 cents and now this? I would use the proper snap on cap for that to remove it.
Wrap a towel or something to help to get a grip on it.
Go buy a pliers type oil filter wrench....that should be enough to get it off.

loop a rubber belt through a box end wrench, tighten the rubber belt around the oil filter by rotating the wrench, keep rotating the wrench counter-clockwise until the filter collapses and twists off...

HOW TO GET A OIL FILTER OFF?
a band wrench is useful, but lacking that i would go to a messy idea that works. take along screw driver and a hammer. force the screw driver through both sides of the filter and pull on the screw driver to get the filter to move. i have used this method in a lube shop a few times over the years.
    HI

as above I've used a screw driver before.. its messy but works.. Just make sure your going the right direction. things look different when your under the car.

Also when installing the new filter HAND TIGHTEN ONLY 1/4 of a turn after the gasket comes in contact with the motor. Make sure you get the old gasket off or you'll have more trouble.

    good luck

    Tim
just like the other guy suggested - drive a screwdriver through it. If you punch it few times, it will go in. then just turn. it will be messy though. And remember - don't tighten the new one too much - just using your hand, it will spare the effort for next oil change
if you dont have a filter wrench then put a drain pan underneath then drive a screwdriver through the filter to get some leverage on it to turn it.

This will be pretty messy so be prepared to clean up a spill
You're going to throw it out so denting it s okay. Try a clamping filter remover and it should come out. And when you put the new one on, just hand tight and another 1/4 turn with the wrench.
Okay...this could get messy...but the best way I have found is to put a chain type oilf filter wrench on it and just keep tightening down till it breaks free...or stick a screwdriver through it if you have room and twist it.
use a filter wrench or jam a screwdriver in the side of the filter and twist it off...you're gonna throw the filter out so don't worry about messing it up
there is a hard rubber type filter wrench that works better than a metal type. it has a sliding strap that grips any surface. i got mine at home depot but other stores may have them.
Drive a screwdriver through it and twist it off with the screwdriver.
I'd let the pros take care of it....... I wouldn't get myself all dirty w/ this.
    R U Kidding, use a filter wrench

Why does my engine make a tapping sound? It goes away once the engine is warm. I just did oil & filter change.

Probably worn valve tappets and lifters. If it's an older car, it's a sign that the engine is wearing. Open the hood, and listen carefully when someone starts the car. If the noise sounds like it's coming from the area of the valve covers, then this is the likely cause. You may still get 50,000 miles out of it, though, if you do a couple of simple things.

First - valve noise can be caused by low oil. Park the car on a level spot, and check the oil level. If it's not full, top it off. Be careful not to overfill it, though.

Second - if the car has high miles, consider changing to a thicker oil. If you're using 5-W30 or 10-W30, switch to 5-W40 or 10-W40. If you're using straight 30W, maybe go to 40W. A thicker oil will help fill the increased space caused by wear.

Finally - check your oil religiously every time you get gas. A worn engine can still run for many miles as long as it has plenty of oil. But if you run it low, it will wear a whole lot faster, and you'll burn up the motor quickly. Why does my engine make a tapping sound? It goes away once the engine is warm. I just did oil %26amp; filter change.
It most likely is your valves, but as another patron here stated the valve may be still be able to be adjusted. If you have been running the car this way for a while, the worn valve may have to be resurfaced. I would definitely have it checked though, start getting second and third opinions and estimates, because what your hearing is the sound of damage. The more you run the engine that way, the more the damage. Still cheaper than buying a new car, you'll have to weigh what you want to do.Why does my engine make a tapping sound? It goes away once the engine is warm. I just did oil %26amp; filter change.
tappets mate, fiestas are a pain for this,

however, if you want a quick and easy solution for this,

get a hammer, preferably one with a big head, and smash the **** out of the head of the engine where its tapping.

might quiten it down failing that, buy it some tap shoes.

    good luck
Give Ralfcoder 10 points! He just said everything that I was going to recommend.

I have slight tapping noise on my truck at startup (condition worse during winter). Same noise, 3rd year now and 195k on motor. I just run a little heavier oil and the friggin thing keeps running.
if it goes when warm then probably a sticking hydraulic lifter in the head,

either try an engine flush(fraid you have to change the oil and filter again)

or have a compression test done, this will tell which lifter is stickingso that it can be replaced
have u checked you plugs and points?...this can make ur engine taps...depending on the tapping it could be the big ends on the way out which unfortunetly means a new engine...maybe take it 2 a garage for a health check..lol..

may just be a valve or summin simple, good luck
Most likely valve clearances - they'll be manually adjustable, or hydraulic depending on the car.
If its an overhead valve engine, then it need the tappets adjusting [valves]
Flats on bottom of hydraulic lifters or cam lobes worn
this is caused by worn valves its an expensive repair best just to live with it

What's the best oil and best oil filter to use on my 96' Toyota Tacoma 2wd truck? it's got 60,000 miles.

I was told certain high end oils and high end filters ';Actually'; are all marketing and they are no good, One guy told me to use only Havoline ,, and never use a _____ filter (but i forgot which he said not to use) ... thanks !What's the best oil and best oil filter to use on my 96' Toyota Tacoma 2wd truck? it's got 60,000 miles.
Lol, that blank would say FRAM...... the bypass valves are cheap, and more then often defective.... the filter media is cheap and thin, and usually warped.... the endcaps (holds the media together) is thin and cheaply glued on CARDBOARD. and of course the threads usually have shavings on them....

Valvoline is good oil, just uses the bare amount of addititves to pass the api....

Havoline is a great oil to use..... for oil filters, I'd either use purolator or wix (napa gold) filters..... I personally use wix, the filters are tanks. For oil weight..... I'd stick with 5w-30.... it acts like a 5 weight in the winter (hense ';W'; stands for winter) and at operating temp its a 30 weight.... gives great startup flow. More over 10w-30 in the cold.

Fram is all name, and cruddy construction..... the only good filter they make costs over 10 bucks.... why would you pay that much and get the same around 5 or 6?What's the best oil and best oil filter to use on my 96' Toyota Tacoma 2wd truck? it's got 60,000 miles.
Frams are the cheapest and overpriced filters there are,the walmart supertech (made by champion labs) is actually alot better and cheaper. Napa golds are wix oil filters, same for the cheaper ones. Havoline is cheap, yet has a great additive pack and oil basestock Report Abuse

Use the grade and weight (5-10w-30) whatever manufacturer suggests, not a cheap filter....but more important is how often you change your oil

Check it out. Interesting reading for gearheads.
Oil brands are like sports teams... everyone has their favorite. If you want to use a good high-end oil, get a synthetic oil...most major brands offer a full synthetic. It's pricier, but lubricates better and has more stability, plus flows in high and low temps better. In my Corvette I use Mobil One, because that's what it came with from the factory. I'm a believer in sticking with the same brand and not changing. As far as filters, supposedly the best brand is Fram... I'm sure any will do the job, but I consistently hear Fram is the best. I hope this helped a little.
For the most part, it is true. As long as the oil meets your manufaturers specs, and you change at the their specified intervals, you will be fine. I am a fan of Mobil oil and filters myself. Wix also makes a good filter.
valvoline...and fram oil filters fram uses anti drainback construction keeps the oil where you need it ,...eliminating dry startup...

oil filter is located on engine at right [drive belt] end, on the [front] side.

it uses a black plastic cap with normal right hand threads,

the filter cartridge will stay in place after the cap is removed and can be pulled down with light pressure, push the new element into place

either end first,[ on this filter element both ends are the same]

now inspect cap for debris [clean with carburettor cleaner spray and blow out with compressed air] next remove old -O- ring from plastic cap and replace with the new one provided with new oil filter, giving it a smear of new oil before reinstalling it

The 1982 XR500R doesn't have on oil filter.

It has an oil screen, which rarely needs to be cleaned.

Clean it when any engine work is done - it's inside of the right side crankcase cover (clutch cover).

Go to - your bike - CrankcaseOn an 82 xr 500 r wher is the oil filter?
Well if a bike has one it is usually located in one of 3 places-at the rear of the engine -a screw on type filter will be located here, at the front of the engine-a screw on type filter can be located here also. Internal filters are located in one of 2 places-under the engine toward in the center, toward the rear of the engine, or under the right side lower engine cover-these usually have a small seperate section of the engine cover that is held on by 3 or 4 bolts. I am betting that yours is located internally under the engine.
guardrailjim is spot on ... the '82 XR500 only had a oil filter screen...

the '83 XR500 was the first year to have a paper cartridge filter that was to be replaced with every oil change...
I had an 84 500 and it seems like it was on the right hand side at the front of the side cover. It'll hat three bolts and is about a 1.5 inch cover. It's a cartridge style not a spin on.
I agree with Janice, I think that one is internal, you should go and buy one first, then you will know the shape and size of it. Then look for the cover plate that holds it in %26amp; in place.

you can but i fail to see why you would want to . if you are using any typical oil, the life of that oil is roughly 5000 miles. given the current technology in today's engines you will not develop enough material in the filter to create a situation that forces the system into bypass mode. i do this stuff for a living. Can you change your oil filter with out changing the oil%26gt;?
No, whats the use of changing the filter at all.Bay the way u must change the oil, because the viscosity of the oil becomes to thin and it full of carbon, that's way it turn black.
No reason why you can't but what would be the point in that? No you will not loose all the oil. Just what is in the filter.
Yes you can, its your car. However if the oil filter is dirty, any new oil will be instantly contaminated.
You can do that but it defeats the purpose cause then your filtering oil with a dirty filter
sometimes you can but why would you want to??

Can u bust a oil pan gasket by putting a oil filter on too tight?

the oil pan and the oil filter are not connected. if you put the oil filter on too tight, you'll never get it off. put some oil on the oil filter o-ring and just hand tighten itCan u bust a oil pan gasket by putting a oil filter on too tight?
No. The oil filter does not connect to the oil pan. The oil filter screws into the oil pump and it should only be put on hand tight. All you should have to do to tighten the bolts on the oil pan to the factory torque specs and it should work. If not replacing the oil filter is not hard at all and can be done by yourself. Can u bust a oil pan gasket by putting a oil filter on too tight?
No way to bust an oil pan gasket by pulling the old fitter on to tight. The oil filter not part of the oil pan. You can bust the oil filter housing and the oil filter gasket. The only to bust a oil pan gasket is to over tighten oil pan bolts.
I don't think so, but remember you have to take it off again. If you are having leaks after replacing oil filter you might have left the old seal attached to the engine when you changed the filter, thus putting on new filter with another seal. two seals will leak.
No, the oil pan and gasket are completely seperate assemblies from where the oil filter screws on. If your gasket is leaking have you tried re-torquing your oil pan bolts? Sometimes something as simple as that will stop a leak. Hope this helps.
No! But you may deform the oil filter gasket sufficiently to cause it to leak. And you may have a bugger of a time removing the filter at oil change time too.
No but you may have damaged the gasket on the oil filter itself. This would cause a spray of oil so if you are just dripping that is not it.
No, you can't bust an oil pan gasket by putting an oil filter on too tight. An oil filter and an oil pan have nothing in common with each other except being in the oil system.
usually not if its leaking check the filter gasket make sure you didnt break the oil filter mount
no, it might have something to do with your oil filter mount or placement. (may be on cockeyed).
No, the oil filter has nothing to do with the oil pan.
Not possible. Oil filter and oil pan are two separate things
    ugh no.

My oil is leakin in my 1998 dodge neon.. i changed the gaskets and oil filter... what else could it be?

which gasket did you change.....no matter....oil has a way of traveling before it drip,s......clean the engine......then try to pinpoint the area ......check all the point,s of pressure....like the oil pressure sending switch.....many time,s it will spread to different area,s .....causing you to think that,s where the initial leak is.......oil can spread quite a way before it drip,s....cleaning the engine can be a easy way of locating the source.......good luck!My oil is leakin in my 1998 dodge neon.. i changed the gaskets and oil filter... what else could it be?
Both the SOHC %26amp; DOHC engines may leak oil at the cam position sensor (CMP), which is located below the intake piping that leads from the airbox containing the air filter to the throttle body. There is an O-ring seal at this sensor which can fail, but is relatively easy to replace. The resulting oil leak can appear to be either the head gasket or the main seal between engine and transmission. Check this spot first.

Another common leak is the oil pressure sensor, located on the back of the block under the exhaust manifold. This is also sometimes mistaken for head gasket failure. Remove the sensor unit using a special 1 1/16'; oil pressure sender socket (available at auto parts stores), as regular sockets will damage the unit. Apply oil-resistant (yellow) teflon pipe tape to the threads of the sensor, and reinstall it.
head gasket ,big problem with them, or rear main seal which is second biggest problem.
if either engine that was available in your car, they both have the same common leak points. clean it off and try to see where it comes from. if it comes from the back of the engine on the left side its probably the headgasket. if its on the front of the engine under the timing cover and it pours out its the front cam seal. if its coming from inside the bellhousing of the trans its the rear main seal. the valve covers and spark plug tube seals leak too, but not bad enoough to hit the ground, normally. the oil sending unit on the back of the engine in about the center of the block can also leak into the connector.

can any one help landrover 1986 2.5 litre turbo.there is oil in the air filter ,what is causing this any help please1986 landrover oil blowing in air filter?
That is due to oil leaks on the engine body, evaporating after the engine get warmed and sucked thru the air filter in take.

So check engine oil leaks from the cylinder upper head gasket, tight firmly its bolts or replace the gasket.

Check also for oil leaks at the spark plugs.

Regards1986 landrover oil blowing in air filter?
Change your PCV valve. Should be a simple pull out and put a new one back in. on your valve cover gasket somewhere, will have a hose coming from it.
Do you have a line coming from a valve cover and going to the air filter? If you do, engine compression may be blowing by your valve stems into the valve cover which could force oil laden air up into the air filter area where the oil forms. Just a possibility. Take your oil filler cap off and see if you have any blowby coming out of the filler hole. This would indicate leaking valves or valve stems.
A bad pcv valve. You can get it for a few bucks and replace it in two minutes.

I just changed my engine oil and the oil filter fell off....should i keep driving it?
No, don't drive it. Get to Walmart and look up your car make, get another one, put it in place.

But I don't think you should even turn on the engine because I don't know how high the oil filter is and how much oil is left. If it all drains out, you will ruin something for sure when it runs dry.

And then the car will be broke forever.
Just put some STP or Wynns in the engine, it'll be fine, for about 10 miles before it seizes.
Only if you want to buy a new engine too.
    No! The engine will self-destruct.
What you need to do is find out why it fell off in the first place. Are the threads stripped or was it not on tight enough. So I would take a close look at the filter adapter first to find out why it fell off. Then go and get a fliter to put on it.
Sure, oil filters are one of those things that you don't really need. Car makers just put them on there to cost you more money.
you sound like most of the so called ase master techs on here..

    drive it hard,

if the oil pressure is low it needs to rev higher
    Should YOU keep driving it?

    Yes, absolutely.
sure! if you want to buy a new motor.
DOH !!! no ..don't drive it, the oil is leaking out where the filter should be...you obviously didn't screw it in correctly...
NO NO and NO not ever , untill you put another one on.

you will blow the motor and it cant be fixed.
    NO!!!
Why not. Drive it till the engine seizes up. Then you won't be able to drive it at all! Look at the bright side....walking burns calories! You'll be a lean mean fighting machine in no time!

Or you could replace the filter, make sure the oil is full and continue driving.
No, you need your oil filter. It filters crap out of the oil so it doesn't get spread throughout your engine.
No Way Jose!!!!!! You have to have the filter or else all you oil will come out and then the engine will seize or even worse crack. Not to mention, you will have an environmental spill on your hands. Get a new filter and make sure it is put on right. Refill it with oil and then you may continue driving, but not until then.

I'm sure Bosch makes many can style filters but none of them are made for the big six inline BMW motors. Why is cessna 208 engine oil change is done at 1000hr and oil filter change at 1200hr,what's the logic behind?

It's a good question, but you'd be better off asking Pratt %26amp; Whitney. They designed the engine, so they must have a logical reason.
dont sound right to me i change both at the same time
Sounds like an error in engineering reasoning to me.

It could be that they found that particles are released in to oil after the change that the filter picks up but then that would apply to any oil change, not just aircraft.

Oil Filter Location on Mazda V6?

Where do you find the oil filter on an Australian plated Mazda MPV wagon, with a V6 engine? I have found the sump plug, but not the oil filter.

If its one of them oil filters that is not like the traditional type, ie bolted onto the engine block, is it any more complicated to change the oil than other cars?Oil Filter Location on Mazda V6?

sorry i cant help you because i have never worked on one.

or go to a auto shop and they will tell you cheers.Oil Filter Location on Mazda V6?
The filter is a standard oil filter located on the left side of the motor as you face the car. The exhaust pipe runs right past it. I drape a couple of paper towels over the pipe to keep the oil off it when you remove the filter.

  • Where is the oil filter located on a 2005 vw jeta tdi?

The element is in a cartridge in front of the engine. Don't forget that you also have to drain the oil out of the oil pan. If you don't know how to change your oil, take it to a mechanic. Here are pics of an oil change and where the filter is. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/engin鈥?/a>

Make sure you use VW spec 505.01, 506.01, or 507.00, other oils can erode the camshaft. If you take it to someone, make sure they use these specs oil because not using this oil will void the engine warranty. Again, if you don't know where the oil filter is, you probably should not attempt this job.Where is the oil filter located on a 2005 vw jeta tdi?
the oil filter is located on the top of the engine (in front between the radiator and the engine. next to the dip stick. take off the black plastic cover and the oil filter is under the black plastic cap. take that off by unscrewing it. the filter is not a filter like in a regular car.

Its a replaceable paper element under the large black cap. You will need a special wrench(available at a good parts shop GSF or Europarts) the element will come with a small bag with two ';o'; rings, it is important to replace these.

To be honest it's pretty easy. Take the current oil filter out and go to the store with it (or with the brand and the number on the side). Your parts specialist should be able to match it up with something that they have in stock. Good luck!2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Oil filter?
How many miles? If over 5000 then switch to a full synthetic oil. I use this oil at Walmart called Shell Rotella T 5w40. It's designed for a heavy duty Diesel Engine but 250 owners swear by it. I use a Fram CH6012 as the filter. All at Walmart.
Use quality, brand name, 10W40, 4 stroke motor oil.

Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?

I have an 85 Toyota Corolla SR5(Carbureted) that keeps spitting up oil into the air filter area. Changed the PCV Valve and hoses about 8 months ago and not noticing the normal ';blow-by'; in that area of the filter. I'm seeing it more on the side where the Air Suction Valve and the Air Suction Inlet are, almost as if its pumping oil up there. Could this be a sign of bad or worn out valves?Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?
If your vehicle exhaust system is blocked you can experience back pressure in your engine check your muffler shop to check for clogged rear muffler, if all is well then you probably have worn piston rings or engine block wear.Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?

My car uses a fram ph3614 oil filter. can I switch to the ph3600? there is plenty of space.?

if you have enought room and the rubber gasket is the same and the threads are the same you can

what motor is it ?My car uses a fram ph3614 oil filter. can I switch to the ph3600? there is plenty of space.?
Craig, If you want to take the time why not cross-reference The Fram PH 3600 over to an AC Delco, Wix, NAPA-made by Wix, Carquest's best made by Wix, Purolator or Motorcraft - made by Purolator.

Wander in to any NAPA store where they have a Fram and NAPA filter cut in half. It'll change your mind in a hurry which filter is mechanically better.

Another tip. If your filter is located in a vertical position at oil change time carefully fill the oil filter with fresh engine oil till the oil meets the threads. The reason for this is your oil system will get full oil pressure sooner at startup. My car uses a fram ph3614 oil filter. can I switch to the ph3600? there is plenty of space.?
a lot of times there is more than one filter that will fit not knowing the numbers if the treads and the seal is the same you can... you wouldnt want to go with a smaller filter that the one you have but a bigger one is ok you just have to add more oil to fill and really it woul dbe better having more oil

Where is the oil filter on a ram 250cc quad bike?

    Hi,

RAM use two or three different engines, one uses a screw on cartridge type filter which is easy to see,one uses a internal paper type filter which is accessed via a cover under the engine and the other one just uses a fine wire gauze which you wash out and i think this comes out with the drain plug.

  • Can a vehicle run with an oil filter with no gasket on it. how long would it run?

i own a repair shop, and considering its going to be leaking very badly,id say not very long, given the rate it will leak id say you,ll have less then 15-20 minutes on it before it runs it dry on oil, after that it wont take it long to lock the engine up,good luck, i hope this help,s.Can a vehicle run with an oil filter with no gasket on it. how long would it run?
if u tighten the filter too tight

    to create a seal

    it will damage the thread

it twists into on the eng block

if u dont tighten the filter too much

    then once engine pressure builds

loss of oil will occur until the engine seizes alltogether.

    my advice is to

    replace the old oilfilter

    do NOT overtighten it

and wrap old cloth around the filter

making sure it doesnt get snagged in moving

engine parts, drive very slowly and pull over

frequently to check oil stick level

if its low replace/top -up the oil and definatly do not overfill with oil, until u get to a place near town

where u can safely park up until you decided on how to get it fixed ie:yourself or a garage,if the initial drive is unnessecary thenWALK to the garage and dont start the engine until its remedied. this would be my safest advice and best in the long run for the vehicleCan a vehicle run with an oil filter with no gasket on it. how long would it run?
yeah, until the oil blow out where the gasket is suppose to be.
In one word, NO...it might run a couple minutes, but you only have 5 or so quarts of oil in the oil pan. Once the oil pressure light goes on, or the gage drops to zero, ten to thirty seconds until you hear the damage noises...
Not long, it will pump the oil out as quick as it starts.
    wha?

if you have an oil filter that doesnt have a gasket, then you would know right away how long it would run for...you would most likely leave a HUGE puddle of oil as soon as you start your car.

if your car uses a spin-on type filter (metal housing) then there should be a rubber gasket built onto it. if you use an insert filter (like i have to), then the filter should come with an o'ring to seal the filter housing.

and if you were leaking oil with a filter that had no gasket, then your vehicle would run until you were out of oil then the engine would seize.
Probably 5 minutes, maybe 10 or 15, depending on how tight the filter is on. It would be metal to metal, depends on the car too, it might not matter how tight you get it, it might not be a good seal.

Just put something on it if you have to, some silicone sealer, and let it sit over night, at least that might help until you get a good filter,
sure it can run without gasket. UNtil all the oil spews out and it overheats and locks up and you have to replace the motor. No NO NO NONO don't let it go.
It might run for a while, depending on how much leaked out (or get forced out because of the oil pressure.)
lol this is the best question i have seen in a while , given i havent been on here long lol. it all depends on the rpms u plan on running your engine while you count down to destruction , actually i would like to be there where do you live. i am thinking about 4,000rpm maybe 1 minute depending on how tight the engine is to start with and how many miles it has on it.
It would run forever as long as you don't put a key in the ignition. I'd guestimate 2 - 3 miles on a hot day. Then your mains, rods, camchaft and liftrers would heat and gall beyond repair.
The manufacturers of oil filters put those gaskets on there for a reason, not for decoration. That filter screws onto your motor, and motor oil could possibly bypass the threads and leak between those threads and the oil filter itself. That gasket seals that filter and keeps the motor oil from coming out of the motor. If your car ran out of oil, you risk seizing up your motor, and a total motor rebuild would be the result.

A small item.... but imperative for the performance of your vehicle.
